That’s total BS and nothing but liberal agenda rhetoric.

There is more oil in America than any other country in the world. Our government has confirmed this fact.

We have better ways to get that oil to the surface. We can now slant drill and get the oil out from areas that were less likely to get it out in the past. New technology is allowing us to get more oil out of old wells that we could not get in the past. The fact is that this state has plenty of oil still under it.

Saying that, why would we want to get our own oil out of the ground even if it is profitable and will provide thousands of jobs? It is so much easier getting our oil from a Venezuelan Dictator or some unstable government in the Middle East.

Crude Oil Production

Here's info from a recent article comparing nations:
Quote:
1. Russia
Russia is the single largest oil producing country in the world, with a production of about 10,124,000 barrels per day, according to statistics compiled by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. This represents just under 12% of the world supply of oil. Russia has about 60 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, or about 5% of the world total oil reserves.

2. Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia produces only very slightly less than Russia with approximately 10.121 million barrels per day - 12% of the total world production of oil. Saudi Arabia has the world's largest proven reserves of oil, with approximately 265 billion barrels, or about 20% of the world's proved oil reserves. This allows Saudi Arabia to increase and decrease its level of oil production depending on market conditions. Saudi Arabia was the largest oil producer as recently as 2008.

3. The United States
Many may not realize that the United States is such a large oil producer. The United States produces about 9.6 million barrels per day. This represents 11% of the world oil supply. However, the United States does not have overly large proven oil reserves. Most known reserves are already being tapped for current production needs. The United States only has about 19.1 billion barrels of proven reserves, representing only about 1 to 2% of the world's proven oil reserves. (Before jumping into this hot sector, learn how these companies make their money. See Oil And Gas Industry Primer.)

4. China
China is the world's fourth-largest oil producer, supplying about 4.27 million barrels per day, and about 5% of the world oil supply. Like the United States, China does not have extradordinarily large oil reserves, only about 20.3 billion barrels. Much like the United States, this is a very small fraction of the world's oil reserves - particularly relative to the amount of production.

5. Iran
Iran produces about 4.25 million barrels of oil per day, for about 4.9% of the world oil supply. Iran is regarded as a major player in the world oil market because it has a very large reserve of proven oil. Its proven reserves are approximately 137 billion barrels, or 10% of the world's proven oil reserves.

The President's Oil Reserves Lie

According to a June 2008 article in Kiplinger Magazine, the United States has enough oil reserves to power the nation for upwards of three centuries.

California already taxes gas heavily.. and produces a lot of oil ... and taxes that too .. just on gas tax (one of the highest taxes in the country) it pulls in approximately 8-9 billion just from it every year... You can't prop up a spending problem though.. the more revenue you feed it .. the more the idiot goes out and spends

That and the huge untap'd supply of natural gas.. It's very strategic how the U.S has pursued energy policy.. drain the world of there's and tap yours last.

Oil will always be high. The days of cheap gas are long gone. Up until 10 or so yrs ago gas & oil was fairly inexpensive. It does suck that the united states depends on foreign oil from the middle east & people who hate americans. Its quite odd.

As a geologist I'm for more off shore drilling not just because it will mean more job opportunities for myself but because it will also mean more jobs and revenues for that state. That said, who ever posted that link to the partisan hack blog site American Thinker (it should be American Not Thinker) needs their head examined. That website is a complete partisan joke which doesn't even have the slightest pretense of maintaining basic journalistic standards. The US does not even remotely have a 300 year supply of oil and in fact we only have around 1%-2% of the world's oil even though we are currently consuming around 25% of all the oil produced in the world.

That cannot be sustained. Sure, we can drill more but we still only have so much even if we count unconventional reserves and the faster we drill the sooner we will run out and the more expensive it will be to recover what is left. By all means, let's drill and make as much money as we can but don't delude yourself into thinking the US has enough reserves to be self sufficient at the current rate of consumption much less if consumption goes up.

Shouldn't drill and pollute environment. Should ban SUVs, invest in rail/ban cars off the roads, make energy consumption quotas. US is over-consuming energy, this needs to stop.

How dare they pass bills to drive the agenda that they were elected to push for, THE NERVE! The nerve of that darn representative government. I mean the idea that our legally elected representatives might disagree on stuff is just un-American!

I wonder if the John Boehner could use the same response that Obama gave in his first term in office when people questioned his agenda by dismissively answering, "We won."

And this bill is a very good thing, and why shouldn't it be? Obama himself wants more drilling too. He's just avoiding doing this in California to pacify his base.
