Hubby would like to get on with CDC however with that being a state ran agency I'm a bit concerned

My BIL has worked for the CDC since the 1980's and enjoys his job. He is kind of a masochist though. Wait until you have a job to move. I would wait at least 2 more years for things to stabilize a bit before getting on with CDC. Obviously seniority is a concern when severe budget cuts are looming.

Take some manners classes to address the rest of your post.

LIKE I SAID different cultures here it's not even thought about when you are in a social setting having a drink VERY LAID back occasion they weren't even expected to be there but OBVIOUSLY I was VERY WRONG for doing that at a table at all!! My guess is if ANYONE is around you throw your phone across the room and do NOT touch it for any reason even if the doctors are waiting on word from you to pull the plug on a parent. Once the guests leave then you may touch your phone. One example of different cultures it's not even thought about here in a laid back setting

Here is another example of the differences here you BETTER say YES MA"AM and NO MA'AM, NO SIR, YES SIR I have been informed that it is a sign of disrespect and making women feel old. That one is gonna be tough to break when I have done it my whole life

I still say YES MA'AM, NO MA'AM. I was born in Biloxi, MS.

We moved away from CA but i used to fish that whole area quite a bit. Don Pedro, New Melones, Camanche Lake, Pardee, New Hogan, Strawberry. Made a lot of Great Memories campin & fishin'.

Sonora, Jamestown, Columbia was a pretty nice area. I don't know how it is Now.

Best of Luck to You Darly.

Sounds more like you were hanging out with an odd crowd, I wouldn't judge all of California by them.
Checking messages on a phone is pretty standard behaviour these days, doesn't get much notice unless you're doing it obsessively.
