Guess you haven't lived here long.

9 months out of the year, Sunny with a chance of Sunshine.

Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing. "Morning low clouds and fog at or near the coast, burning back to the coast by noon. Otherwise, clear. Highs from the 60s at the coast to the 90s inland." Repeat 274 times.

The chant for coastal So Cal: "Late night and early morning low clouds and fog along the coast, clearing inland by noon." I've heard it a million times.

Well it looks like the rains earlier this week were yet another MJO "belch" and that the blocking ridge is building back in. Two systems slated for today and Sunday are falling apart. Dry forecast out to late next week after that.

My minuscule optimism did not last long. Here's the latest from the NWS:

BY NEXT SATURDAY OR SUNDAY A COLD TROUGH WILL DROP DOWN THE WEST COAST. EARLIER RUNS HAD IT CENTERED OVER CALIFORNIA WITH MORE FAVORABLE PRECIPITATION TRAJECTORIES. THE LATEST GFS/GEM AND ECMWF MODEL SOLUTIONS NOW HAVE THAT TROUGH OVER THE INTER-MOUNTAIN WEST WITH LITTLE OR NO HOPE OF PRECIP OVER COASTAL CALIFORNIA IN THE EXTENDED RANGE. WILL HAVE TO CLOSELY MONITOR THESE LONG RANGE SOLUTIONS AND QUITE FRANKLY HOPE THEY SWITCH. OUTSIDE OF TOMORROWS MEAGER LIGHT RAIN EVENT THERE APPEARS TO BE LITTLE OR NO RAIN FOR THE DISTRICT THROUGH THE END OF FEBRUARY. FROM A WATER RESOURCE PERSPECTIVE THIS IS NOT GOOD NEWS AS WE EXIT WHAT SHOULD BE OUR RAINIEST MONTHS OF THE YEAR. MARCH CAN STILL BRING US BENEFECIAL RAINS BUT ITS GETTING VERY LATE IN THE WATER YEAR.

Since PG&E gives a rebate in March based on conservation in Jan and Feb, I normally take Navy showers during those two months (among other tactics). For Lent I will continue doing this in order to save not only gas but also water. What will you give up for Lent?
