Well the front accelerated and came blasting through the Bay Area early AM. It was already clear with high winds at dawn (winds continue apace). NWS are now prog'ing winds to spend their force by sun down, that means guaranteed trouble for ag interests especially in the Sacramento and other northern intermontaine valleys. Once the wind stops mixing the atmosphere, the cold air aloft will come crashing down to the valley floors.

On a more positive note, the bit DyanmoLA posted is encouraging. The end of the La Nina and the MJO gettin' its mojo appear to be helping. Praying for a repeat of Spring / early Summer 2011.

You don't appreciate the beautiful blue sunny skies until you get windy, flooded streets and more rain then you could imagine - Current situation in Sydney, Australia

California has too large a population dependent on water with one of the largest agricultural industries in the world to not be worried about the lack of rain.

Cali has nuclear reactors right? So water can be sucked in from the ocean and filtered without any major problem..

Fingers crossed:

================================================== =================

BY SATURDAY...THOUGH...A CHANGE TO COOLER AND MORE MOIST CONDITIONS WILL BEGIN AS THE FIRST IN A SERIES OF UPPER LEVEL TROUGHS MOVES ONTO THE WEST COAST. THIS FIRST SYSTEM WILL SERVE TO SWITCH THE FLOW TO ONSHORE WHICH WILL COOL TEMPS MARKEDLY AS WELL AS MOISTEN THE ATMOSPHERE. SOME DRIZZLE BY MORNING IS EXPECTED ALONG THE COAST. RAIN CHANCES ARE GREATEST OVER THE NORTH BAY COUNTIES SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY...BUT RAIN COULD SPREAD AS FAR SOUTH AS SANTA CRUZ COUNTY BY MIDDAY SUNDAY. THE NEXT TROUGH IS PROGGED TO APPROACH THE COAST ON MONDAY...AND THIS ONE LOOKS STRONGER WITH INCREASED SOUTHERLY WINDS AHEAD OF THE SYSTEM AND THE POTENTIAL TO SPREAD RAIN ACROSS MOST OF THE CWA BY TUESDAY. RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE HIGHEST ACROSS THE NORTHERN ZONES. UNSETTLED WEATHER TO PERSIST THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK WITH ADDITIONAL SYSTEMS MOVING THROUGH. THERE CONTINUES TO BE SOME DIFFERENCES IN MODEL SOLUTION CONCERNING THESE MAINLY WITH TIMING AND EXACT PLACEMENT...HOWEVER. BUT THE UPSHOT IS THE STATE SHOULD RECEIVE SOME MUCH-NEEDED RAINFALL NEXT WEEK.

We're dead broke. And even if we had the money, the resulting water would be far too expensive.

I have better idea. Expose water to the free market. No more subsidies and other government supports. Yep, including infrastructure. That would make things interesting, right?
