Based on radar there may be a tornado near Atwater. At my present location (bayside flats, San Mateo County), we've had several waves of activity. Just a few minutes ago I saw mammatocumulus and a rotating feature that may have been a funnel cloud.

OK, now that was a pretty good cell you got there.

Here, it's more like a continuous flow, that is somehow interacting with the Santa Cruz Mountains. Countless wall clouds have passed by and a couple funnels. The sheer is almost too much to allow an actual twister to form, anything that gets started gets truncated. That said, any one of them could break through if just the right combination of sheer and instability hits. Quite a day.

Oh and by the way, not a drop of rain so far. I actually find that a bit ominous. Maybe similar to a Mid Western dry line, of sorts.

Took video will post later after I edit it. Tracking the storm right now, that cell that passed over has the best chance of forming a tornado as it picks up speed heading toward the foothills. On its current trajectory it will have about 60 miles of flat land before it hits elevated terrain. The back end sheer has started to spin at a quicker pace based on the velocity readings on NOAA's site.

Don't worry you're in SD. The heat will come just as the night follows the day.

Heard some distant thunder just now in Oakland. The rain has been light to moderate here but nothing too heavy yet. Oakland is mostly in a slight shadow from the hills of San Mateo County. There were dark clouds over the bay and toward those mountains, they grew even darker toward the south of the peninsula. Basically right in line with what BAH said but I am too far to notice any structure or rotation.

SLO County lightning and thunder all night, lots of simultaneous and near simultaneous strikes and thunder, accompanied by very heavy rain. A great Sierra night, here on the Central Coast, very rare here.

Had lots of thunder and lightning with some very heavy downpours in Oakland last night. The last time I was in a thunderstorm was last September during a monsoon in San Diego. A very nice rare even for the bay area indeed.
