Livermore police agree to pick up more pension costs - Inside Bay Area

Ok. So all these people on this board are complaining about public employee pensions. How they are against them and the tides are turning, et al. I, for one, tell these same people they are smoking dope and have no clue what they are talking about and/or no clue what is truly going on for this issue.

This above article is what I am talking about. Please READ it. Yes, read, not skim, not cherry pick. The police officers in Livermore pay NOTHING toward their pension plan (I am a police officer in the SF Bay Area and pay 17% toward mine, and have taken a 24% pay cut in the past 4 years).

They just got a 2% pay raise and agreed to pay 2.5% toward their pension cost. Uh, net loss, .5%. Really? NOW read further into the article: They get more vacation time and other costs, which will make that .5% GONE and not even an issue.

Yet you fools in Kalifornia, when you see these things occur, all one the state, claim a "victory" Many cities, all across the state, are giving their police a 9% raise, then taking a 9% pay out into the retirement system. Net loss: NOTHING. ZIP. ZILCH. Yet, they can tell the people the "unions" have agreed to pay into the "system."

You people are fools and blind. You whine, complain, and moan. Yet your complaints go NO WHERE. NO ONE listens to them; they say they do. They pretend they do. Yet, when you look at the facts, NOTHING has changed.

2.4 years and I shall be gone. Good luck to the People's Republik of Kalifornia. You socialists are going to need it.

It might just be me but It sounds like you have pen(si)on envy.

Also seems like the worm has turned for you........man I'm on a roll tonight.......as I seem to remember you bashing away at those who are supporting pension reform and how the lowly union LEO's are getting the raw end of the deal. I should think you would be touting the fact that a local POA got one over on us unwashed masses.

Of course, do not address the issue at hand and attack me. Me? I attack the fools within Kalifornia. For see, I am one of those public employees. In 3 yrs, I shall retiree making 93K a year, with 2.7 cost of living increase, for the rest of my life. Oh yes, medical paid for too (not dental and vision though; lost out on that). My wife will retire at the sometime, making 114k a year (much higher position), with her medical, dental, and vision paid for (much better plan and city then I work for).

Oh, I have no envy at all. I am merely showing you fools, who THINK they are making some sort of headway, they are not. They are getting smoke and mirror paraded toward them. The froth at the mouth, about pension reform, when NOTHING is actually being done about it. Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Notta.

Remember: 51 and I won't ever have to work again. Between the wife and I, we will be bringing in over 200k of Kalifornia money and we won't even be living in this godforsaken state. Envy my whole hearted butt. I'll think of the any when you are 62+ slaving away in a cubicle somewhere.s

Sounds like PTSD to me ... Police Traumatic Stress Disorder.

What chu mad about Phil? If you got it knocked, you all set, brah.
Unless, of course, you are just a socially concerned person at heart naturally.
But I gotta tell, you sure never sound like it when you post.

You do need to go move somewhere nice and quiet. You're right about that.
And good luck. Best wishes. After what your career has done to your personality type, you gonna need a break for what ever time you got left. You old and hammered at 49, hoss. Really old and hammered.

Isn't it interesting only one post on the problem in answer and the others attack you personalty.

That speaks volumes about the problem and why it ain't getting fixed. People can't admit they were wrong.

Wrong about what? There still is a huge frigging problem with the pension system in this state. No one is wrong about that.

All the OP did was reinforce what many of us have been saying for years.

All the OP did was show his/her own hypocrisy, again as I stated in my first post the OP should be lauding those that are still gaming the system given the fact that the OP in his own words is thumbing his nose at the rest of us and laughing all the way to the bank.

See attacking him, not the problem.

He is benefiting from the stupidity of the electorate. THAT is the problem, the electorate being convinced someone else will pay, like the Rich. Nope.

So SFPD pays between $17k and $30k a year, but you have to pay a bigger fraction of your pension costs. If you don't feel you're fairly compensated, go work for Livermore, or leave the RoK entirely. I doubt I'd retire in California either. The wages and interesting work make up for the COL and screwed up politics, although I have been on the fence about moving back to Seattle or to Colorado. You don't really seem to get what a pension is. A pension isn't free money. It's part of your compensation. It's why if I had any faith in California's ability to pay pensions in the longterm I would consider working as a civil servant. The benefits and retirement are what make the rather pitiful salary somewhat attractive.
