Everyone is different and can or can't handle that drive on a twice weekly basis. Long-haul truck drivers do that and plenty more, but I wouldn't want to do it. That's just one opinion. Your mileage will vary.

Will what work?

Your car?
Your sanity?
Your job?

Your marriage?

Lot's of variables there. I know some folks who have had similar life situations and done it for years, though not in California. I've even done it myself, but only for a five month period.

One of the key questions is where will you live in LA? Are you spending money on motel rooms or an apartment, in addition to a residence in Visalia? If so, can you do this long term?

One other consideration, those folks I know who have done it for a long period of time invariably ran into family and marriage problems. Just something to keep in the back of your mind.

I would be staying with my mother in L.A. I have thought about the problems this move would cause. Something to really think about...hmmm. Thank you.

I lived 1100 miles from my wife/kids for a month, and she just about went crazy.

How about moving Mom to Visalia...
and making that 200 mile trip to visit her once every couple of months instead?
