I’m in search of an electrician that could come out and install light fixtures (2) outside my garage. Does anyone know how this sort of thing is done and know of a ballpark figure how much something like this would cost? Would places such as Home Depot or Lowes do this sort of job? I do have a front porch light switch I’m assuming could/would be shared with my soon-to-be garage light fixtures.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

The price for this kind of work varies greatly from one area of California to another. Aside from regional pricing differences, it is impossible to estimate the cost over the internet. You will have to call some local electricians to come out and give you an estimate.

There are plenty of books and websites that will show you how to install light fixtures. It isn't terribly difficult but takes some thinking about the process. The hardest part is hanging the light fixture. You will have to run wiring either to the breaker box or tie it into another lighting circuit. Local code may require that you tie it into an outdoor lighting circuit. You will have to get a permit for this work. The department that issues permits usually will tell you what is required of the work.
