Yup.

California's property tax rates are on the low end compared to many if not most other states.

You're also trying to be misleading, that or you've never done your taxes, California income tax starts from your federal AGI and there are numerous California deductions and credits that reduce your overall tax burden. You also seem to not understand how bracketed tax systems work, in the above it is only income above $44,814 that is taxed at 9.3%. Someone making $44,814 won't pay 9.3% on any of their income.

California has a progressive tax model, it taxes its low/mid income folks lightly and its higher income folks more aggressively. The states with lower overall tax burdens usually have a more or less flat tax system, that is, they but the burden more on low/mid income folks.
I think someone else pointed this out above you w/o all the fluff and excess verbiage .. thanks .. I wasn't trying to be misleading .. thanks for the echo though ... and someone w/ an AGI above $44,814 will pay 9.3% and that person will still fall into an income i would say is middle class in California ...
So, thanks for saying nothing

Huh? property taxes are percent of your homes value .. So, it depends on your home's value as to how much you will pay in raw dollars ...
1.25% property tax ..
Lets take this shack apartment .. Yes, I said apartment built in 1970 :
http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/125-Connemara-Way-APT-126-Sunnyvale-CA-94087/19614364_zpid/#{scid=hdp-site-map-list-address}
$525,000 ....
Bam, $6,562.50 a year in property tax ..

Property tax in Colorada is 2% .. but :
4390 Perth Cir, Denver, CO 80249 MLS# 991930 - Zillow
Home is $133,000 ...
your property tax :
$2,660 ...

isn't it amazing how %'ages and multiplication of value work ...

and home values are high as hell .. so given that the amount you pay =
Home value * (property tax rate) .. the amount that comes out the other end is most often equal if not higher than other states who have higher property tax rates.

Where are you getting that 2% number? Everything I've heard puts the effective tax rate under 1%. $250k in the suburbs gets you a decent house with maybe a $2000/yr tax bill. That house you posted isn't in a very good area.

Canadians don't want our health care system, in fact, nobody does.

Such profound ignorance.

Canada has a health care system where the wait time for receiving major medical care can be as long as 4 months. Canadians are frustrated with the waiting time when they need medical attention immediately.

Yes, math is amazing. There are plenty of homes in inland California that are the same price as the one you chose in Colorado. Seems to me if you lived in one of those you're going to have a lot less property tax.

No, this is still not accurate, again California allows numerous deductions. AGI is the starting point....not the end point. Furthermore, someone with a California taxable income of $44,814 would NOT pay 9.3% on any income, the 9.3% rate only applies to income above $44,814.

I believe in a gradual increase of property taxes over a period of years as there are low income and senior homeowners living on fixed income.
