Here is my take on public schools (watch the reaction). Typically private school teachers are paid half what public school teachers make, so why would you do the same work for half pay? Suspicious.

Typically private school teachers do not need certification and don't have it. A good question is; what kind of work would you want to have done on your person or around your home by a person without credentials.

Arroyo Grande High School is a good high school. I would put my kids in St. Joseph or Nipomo over Santa Maria School District. San Luis Obispo High has made a lot of cuts, but Mission Prep is expensive. There is also Coastal Christian in Arroyo Grande

And private school teachers get lots of benefits.

And Paso Robles is trying to get a charter school.

Thanks for the school suggestions. Coastal Christian may be a good choice for us if we end up moving to the area. The tuition looks very reasonable. Does anyone have any direct experience with this school?

If we move there and choose this school, I assume we would look to live in SLO or Arroyo Grande. Does Arroyo Grande have more of a suburban feel?

yeah it does. Coastal christian is a small school. Grace Bible Church is the big church in AG and in Pismo Beach is New Life.

No, you have your choice between small town 1950's or rural 1950's.

I guess you are ignoring the developments behind Wal-Mart and other subdivisions like Ridgecrest.

I've heard good things about A.G. high school. But to be honest I think all the schools in SLO county are pretty good.

Small town 1950's America is not my idea, the developments behind Walmart are no different, I have no idea what or where Ridgecrest is.

Can't go wrong in Pismo, AG or SLO. Paso and Atascadero, in my opinion, are hot, dry and pretty far from the water compared to the others. Your half million, however, will go farther there. Schools are spotty. I'd stay away from Santa Maria and my realtor friend in Nipomo says it's not getting better there because thugs do travel. I think Templeton is the gem everyone forgets about.
