I doubt it if amazon will lose any business but you never know. Shipping & handling costs directly from amazon are high. I was charged 5.00 to ship a .5 oz sylus needle. Had the needle not been on sale for $11.23 i would of never bought it. One seller from canada is charging only .13 cents for shipping but $16.75 for the stylus & its generic. I bought a non generic (shure) which is better.

5 bucks to ship a needle is expensive. Some sellers only charge a few bucks. I dont buy online much now anyways so its ok. Had i not stupidly played a deeply scratched record on my phonograph i wouldnt of had to replaced the stylus. I consider this a $16.31 lesson.

I guess you haven't shipped much recently. Its gotten expensive. UPS Ground has a 1lb minimum and according to their web site, its $9.71 to ship it across the country.

This law is a joke and it's even a bigger joke that they actually put in a positive number in the budget for taxes that AMZN would collect.

Ultimately this issue will be decided in the supreme court with the NY case that's going through the system. There is absolutely no reason for CA or any other state to try to collect tax on AMZN - they will simply do what they have done in all other states who have passed a similar law - withdraw from the market.

No, it means Amazon eliminates California affiliates, a significant loss of California business/jobs and tax revenue, but Amazon can still sell to California residence at no tax since products are not being purchased in California.

Oh...i see. I guess the foul legislature & govenor screwed up again. At least state sales tax will drop 1% to 7.75% here. I do hate that vehicle tags are going up $12.00 & services will be reduced or cut to the very needy yet no pension reform, etc. Brownie & the democratic legislature (+ a few republicans like paul cook of yucaipa) are owned by the public unions so im not surprised. The min car registration in ca is now $67.00. My tags (85 olds) will be 67+10 (county fee) + 2.00 (vlf) = $79.00 a yr. Last yr was 67.00 & the year before was 55.00. Before that it was $45.00. At least my ins dropped 15.00 but my rent & trash increased. I just cant win.

The legislature is truly mentally deficient if they thought Amazon was actually going to roll over and start collecting taxes. Other states like North Carolina have tried using the affiliates as a "business presence" and Amazon promptly terminated those accounts.

Well they aren't collecting tax as of today anyway.

The state wants citizens to self report out of state purchases, which is why there has been a place for it on the tax forms for quite awhile. They correctly assume people are not being truthful and now want AMZ to do it in order to keep it honest. I have heard others say that even asking about our OOS purchases in unwarranted under the current tax code so I really don't know where this will lead or how/who the state will ultimately try to punish to get more money, or how far they are willing to go.
