MontClair ... I still can't believe you're talking about this rent/homeownership thing...
US increasingly shuns home ownership to rent - Business - Personal finance - msnbc.com
Sometimes it just makes sense to rent... Times change ... I rent and have over a quarter of a million dollars in the bank .. you wont find me buying **** in California.

Perry himself has already begun to use violent rhetoric. Its disturbing.

Pay particular attention to:

"Since the recession started hourly wages in Texas have increased at a 6th fastest pace in the nation."

And actually, the only people Cali (who really calls it that?) is keeping are the ones sucking off the govt teat.
Speaking of "govt teats", didn't Perry and Texass just balance the last two state budgets using Federal Stimulus funds?

And BTW, if you're really so unhappy with "Cali", what's keeping you?

OMFreakingGosh.

The first line says your article says it all:
If Rick Perry and George W. Bush had been born in the same family, W would have become known to friends as "the smart one."

Answering the question, “If the Texas Republican primary were held today, which presidential candidate would you be most likely to vote for?” 22 percent of those polled selected Mr. Paul. Just 17 percent of respondents voted in favor of Mr. Perry.

Texas should be far higher than California if cost of housing is supposed to be choking the life out of California, whereas there's a popular perception held by many that Texans pocket way more money---well, if that's true, where's it going?

All of these amenities are a dime a dozen everywhere now when it comes to new suburban cookie cutter homes. Texas and California have the same things--only different is the price.

I didnt say Californians are getting more, what Im saying is that its a myth that Texans are really getting more--apart from more square footage, I dont see one single advantage.
You only want to focus on "Tiers" to distract from the fact that the actual monetary amount between California and Texas savings accounts is VERY SLIM.

There is only a difference of $20 to $530.

And I also pointed out that Californians have higher salaries, which means they should have more dollars to save. But dollar amount and dollar value are two different things.

WHICH SAVINGS ACCOUNT HAS MORE PURCHASING POWER? Relative to the cost of living in each state, Texans are saving more.

As far as housing, if you don't see any advantage to getting more square footage for half the price, then I don't know what to tell you.

I find the most disturbing thing about both these guys, and in fact the whole weird crypto-fascist-rightwing-evangelical "schtick", isn't even their politics or crazy beliefs... it's their drop dead, absolute "certainty" and the total absence of any doubt, ever!! Jee-zus Hisownself could descend from a cloud over Waco, and say, "hey, you guys got it all wrong re: socialism, gays, climate change, Mez-kins, whatever...!", and no doubt they'd still find a way to dismiss it, probably as a "liberal trick", dreamed up by George Lucas and "Hollywood Progressives"!

I've pointed out similar logic to MontClair on another topic 'home ownership rank vs. absolute rate' on another discussion .. Why she fights the absolution logic I have no clue .. I even offered hugs .. *sigh I am dissapoint

Editorial: Texas under Rick Perry is neither ‘miracle’ nor ‘mirage’

Presidential candidate Rick Perry’s governorship is now under the nation’s microscope, which means the whole state is under the same microscope.

That’s a familiar feeling for Texas. It wasn’t that long ago that reporters flocked here because George W. Bush (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/George_W._Bush - broken link) was on the national ballot. Add in the country’s fascination with the Lone Star State, and we’re in for another earful of the supposed Texas story.

Depending on which source you are reading, the state’s economic picture ranges from the “Texas miracle” to the “Texas mirage.”

Most of us know that neither is the case; reality is somewhere in between. The biggest bragging statistic is the pace of job creation since the economic freefall. In June, the 24-month net job increase in Texas — 261,700 — accounted for nearly half the net increase in the entire nation, according to the Dallas Fed.
