If you're really lucky it will rain one of the days you're there. You haven't lived until you've been treated to it raining mud in Bakersfield!

Keep in mind that Bakersfield closes on weekends, the entire town empties out and everyone goes to Pismo Beach, where they are affectionately known as Bakos. The men are identifiable by their large size, wife beater shirts, bald and they drive trucks with oversized tires. The women, about the same with the addition of high hair.

They are the primary economic engine of South San Luis Obispo County.

He's messing with you. What he didn't tell you is that he has not lived in Bakersfield for more than several decades.

In Bakersfield, anything 5 miles west of Highway 99 is consider newer development since that is where new houses and businesses have been built in the past several decades and it is still growing despite today's economy. Have your tour guide show you the communities surrounding Cal State Bakersfield, Marketplace, the Riverwalk, and the Northwest Promenade shopping center.

Most places east of Highway 99 is very ghetto with cheaper housing and decaying business buildings because the attraction is now in the northwest and southwest of Bakersfield.

Now when have I EVER messded with you?

It rained mud when I lived there 20+ years ago. Unless the farmers have stopped tilling their fields and releasing copious quantities of dust into the air, which I doubt, it must still rain mud.

Spoilers-Я-Us!

And still.... you have not experienced a single weather in Bakersfield for more than two decades. That would be like me saying Missouri has swarms of locusts year round, even though I have not been there to experience it first hand.

You'd be almost right. We had a 13 year swarm this summer.

But has it stopped raining mud? I tend to doubt it.

That would be a sight for sore eyes I am seeing my photography skills will come in mighty handy out there. Think how much fun I'll have adding them to my Facebook albums!!! We are going in on a Thursday, so the natives should still be around. We fly out the Sunday, and quite frankly, if those folks are fleeing the city and I can wander around without distraction, that should be great.

I had a feeling he was messing around with me I know a messer when I see him...or read him

Thanks for the areas you mentioned. I'll take notes. I don't mind seeing the ghetto areas if I have time. Or maybe that's not advisable? We have that here too in North and East Tulsa. Some places I definitely feel like I'm a foreigner Some places I need my husband and son along with me. But I don't venture to those areas much, so doubtful I'll be hanging with the folks on the other side. I enjoy shopping at Asian shops though...kinda like all the different types of roots, fruits and vegetables they sell. Anything like that out there? Most Asian or Mexican shops here are always in the dumpy side of town.

See above. I have a witness

You lived in Bakersfield 20 YEARS AGO??????? WTH I'm beginning to think you're just jealous that I am going there, and you're stuck in the Ozarks!!!

As to the mud raining bit. I will ask the company's guide, and report back.

Now quit messin' with me

Default AZ to Bakersfiels, CA move

Hi there,
I'm also from The AZ, the PHX area and also thinkig of making the move to Bakerfield, CA area.... Woundering to get some feed back as far how it been so far for those have made this move.
How is night life, crime, safe for kids, and housing coast?
My wife and I work in the DME/medical field - and might have a good posibility of making this move.
We are in our 30's have two kids one in middle school and our other one is just a bady still...we know it gets hot there yet I read many negetives about the air -yet is it really that bad. AZ heat is VERY hot temps over 110 day adn night these past few summers with cool downs to the 100's so cools downs in Bakersfield at night to the 80- to 90 seem very nice to ous.
