Default Re. working in Oxnard

Oxnard is in Ventura County. Ventura County has long been an agricultural county that lies between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles Counties. In recent years it has become "east county" and "west county" - with Oxnard, Channel Islands, Ventura, Ojai, Port Hueneme, Santa Paula and Fillmore known as "west county" and Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, Westlake, Newbury Park known as "east county." There is still a lot of agriculture going on in the west county, with citrus, avocados, strawberries as being some of the main crops. Ventura County has never been necessarily "urban", but consists of several small to moderate sized towns. There is adequate shopping, etc., home prices are still high, but coming down. East county leans more toward the "urban" area...just depends on what kind of atmosphere you are looking for. You generally can't beat the climate here...

What is the air quality in various parts of Ventura County? What about allergens like pollen? Is there any sort of mass transit system between Ventura County and Los Angeles?

There is a bus, I think it is route 163 from Westlake Village (which actually isn't Ventura County) to I think Woodland Hills. Once in Woodland Hills a person can get on those rapid buses (the big grey buses) and go further east. In reality transportation by bus is pretty slow. Now, if you were in Oxnard, Simi, or Moorpark, you could get on the train all the way to downtown. That would be pretty efficient.

Air quality in west Ventura County (Oxnard, Ventura, Camarillo) is better than east (1000 Oaks, Simi, Moorpark). Some parts of east Ventura County is also susceptible to radon gas.

The VISTA bus system has a daily commuter express between Oxnard, Camarillo and Warner Center: Ventura County Transportation Commission - Ventura Intercity Service Transit Authority (VISTA). Other than the bus, Metrolink and Amtrak serve L.A. from Ventura (Amtrak), Montalvo (Metrolink), Oxnard and Camarillo: Metrolink :: Ventura County Line.

Thanks Charles and Cre8. I appreciate the information. Do you know if people with allergies find the Ojai area pretty good or pretty bad?

Ojai is not the best area for allergies. My son has allergies and he goes to a soccer camp in Ojai (Thatcher School) & has to take extra meds. There are lots of wild, open spaces, and agriculture .. I guess it depends on what you are allergic to. My son is allergic to grasses, weeds and mold. Ojai is a cute little town, and a great place to visit, though

Thanks for your answer. I'm also allergic to grasses, trees, and mold. Do you know if the Juniper trees are a primary allergen in Ojai? What would the mold be from? Why would it be better for allergies in other parts of Ventura County?

I dont really know the answers to your questions, but I do know that my son has a really rough time with his allergies when he is up there for camp vs. when he is at home (Thousand Oaks). Im not sure what allergens are higher in Ojai, whether its the grasses, weeds or mold. He doesnt have an allergy for trees, I dont think.

I found a website that lists the peak times for allergies in Ojai
