Question What are the 'burbs around Oxnard (Moving from GA)

We live in a suburb of Atlanta... My husband already has an office in Thousand Oaks.. but looks like they will set up the main office in Oxnard.. I need to look for homes. Where are the nice suburbs located? (Good Schools both private and public) decent shopping etc....

and omg CA is soooo expensive lol here I can get a 5 bedroom home with basement cul de sac, swim tennis neighborhood for $400K!!!

Thousand Oaks would the preferred place to live. Otherwise Camarillo and Ventura.

No. Thousand Oaks is suburbia. Oxnard is more city like compared to Thousand Oaks. But I wouldn't call Oxnard city like either it's just more so then TO.

Thousand Oaks is TOTAL suburbia. Don't go there looking for a "city"; you won't find one.

Oxnard is a city with suburbs of its own, and a lot more mixed than TO. Were I you, I'd focus on living close to work, be that TO or Oxnard. Be kind to your husband -- avoid commuting. Thousand Oaks is pricey. You'll find a better price for a house in Camarillo, Oxnard or Ventura. Much nicer climate, too.

Oxnard/Ventura are expensive. They are close to the ocean, and have good air. Oxnard used to be a farming area, veges, still is and is the most resonable in price.

A 5 bedroom home in a decent area would cost more than 400K. I think much more.

GL> You would like Ventura. It is much like Carlsbad is to San Diego.

Every one of the previous posts is accurate and informative. I ask a more fundamental question based on your comments above. Is it necessary to move from GA? Yes, TO is one of the best places in SoCal to live but it is really expensive as mentioned. What you described above will cost (no exaggeration) three times more in TO. Nice parts of Oxnard are maybe 20% less expensive. This is a very serious thing to think about.

Except it wouldn't have a basement or enough room for a tennis court.

I would think about renting for awhile -- at least until you decide where you really want to live. Housing prices will probably be lower then too. There are a lot of nice areas around Oxnard -- Thousand Oaks, Port Hueneme (not sure how to spell that), Ventura, Camarillo, etc. You might even find a neighborhood you like in Oxnard.
