I don't see how you can allow unlicensed drivers, regardless of citizenship, to get a free pass.

How is it good for California to be even more attractive to illegals?

How is it good for California to be attractive to wallet-sucking financial charlatans and environmentally destructive industrialists and politically lunatic tea-partiers -- any of whom also could drive without licenses?

Why not stick with the question of the bill: whether unlicensed drivers should be allowed to walk away? ...

Okay, I'll bite, and I consider myself a conservative.

I think it's unduly harsh to take somebody into custody and haul them down to the jail if their only offense is driving a motor vehicle without a drivers license. However they should be jailed if there are other issues involved such as DUI, commission of another crime while driving (e.g. car theft), wants or warrants.

IMO it's okay if the driver has a friend or family member with a valid drivers license come pick up the vehicle, provided the vehicle has a current registration and insurance can be proved. No family/friend valid driver, no registration or no insurance and the vehicle goes on the hook and taken to the impound yard. In fact any vehicle without valid registration and proof of insurance should be impounded whether or not the driver is licensed.

I hate that they are not legal, but what are we supposed to do if the federal government isnt doing its job?

We have this thing called public transportation, or a bus. And yes, I think driving illegally is enough of a reason to call ICE and have them deported.

1. Don't take the driver to jail if that is the only offense. Issue a citation only. Exceptions should be made for people who repeatedly drive without a license.

2. Vehicle remains parked if in an appropriate area, towed if not.

Anything else is going too far IMHO.

I personally think they should let drivers go unless they have warrants or are found to be driving under the influence(or committing some felonious offense) as there are other more important things to worry about.
So what's the point of having a license? Or insurance? Maybe I could go without having to put up with the BS at the DMV every couple of years just like the illegals.

How about we jail the people who snuck into our country for not paying state and federal taxes? If I work for cash or with a phoney ID and do not pay taxes, I bet the IRS would have my butt in court and or jail. If I don't pay for my insurance, license, registration and smog, I bet they will tow my car away and make me pay my fines. People who do these things citizens or not citizens are crooked.

But for some reason, illegals in California are merely considered poor, misunderstood products of an uncaring society!

Exactly. You have to have a drivers license to drive. If people get stopped without one, legal or illegal citizen they need to suffer consequences. Otherwise the entire drivers license requirement is moot.
