life in Ridgecrest
I just had an offer for a job in China Lake and I am trying to decide if I want to pursue it or not. On all the Ridgecrest forums I keep hearing about how great the people are is this true? What would life be like for a single male in his 20s? How much is a one bedroom apartment? Could someone suggest some apartment complexes for me to check out? I am living on the east coast now and would like to move out west for 2-3 years for the experiance I love the outdoors and being outside. Also DC where I live now is so expensive I would probably be able to save some money living in Ridgecrest so I could buy a house when I move back East Would Ridgecrest be a good place for me? Any thoughts at all would be greatly appreciated.

Run far away!
I would NEVER live in Ridgecrest!! It takes a special kind - mostly those who grew up there and never left. I had a colleague that grew up there, left for college and swore he'd never go back. Sorry to be so negative!

If you are an outdoors person it is paradise. Death Valley and wide open deserts to the East, the magnificent Sierra to the West. Ridgecrest itself isn't much but it is close to some of the grandest land in the world.

I know someone that lives in Ridgecrest. He's cool too. Owns the ATA Martial Arts studio out there.
Still, I'd never live there.
You start getting depressed just driving out there. Nervous that you might brake down while on that infinite stretch of forsaken desert road.
Things you'll need to live in Ridgecrest;
- Canteen
- Boots
- Survival Knife
- Compass
And that's just to get to work of a day. =P

life in ridgecrest
To be honest i have lived here nearly all my life..
For older people looking for a peaceful boring town this is the perfect place but if you have kids/teens you do not want to move here there are no malls there is no attractions worth coming to it is one of the most boring possible towns to live in...
the summers are extremely hot and the winters are freezing...
the dust out here ruins yours car paint its ugly and there are alot of drug users here im just being honest i would not raise my children here...
advice from me DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!
the only real good things here are the night skies and how quiet it is...

I think this post pretty much sums it up. I have a family member who lives in Ridgecrest. They bear it because it is affordable. But they would love to move. It's boring as heck and hot, hot, hot. No place for a young single to move to unless you enjoy being bored to death or are into drugs.

Actually, Ridgecrest is a town, like all towns it is a place to have a house and a store, and then get out of town. To the west of Ridgecrest is the Sierra, Kennedy Meadows, Golden Trout Wilderness, Mt Whitney, hundreds and hundreds of miles of hiking trails, jeep trails etc. To the east is Death Valley, again, great outdoors stuff, jeeping, hiking, exploring. Ridgecrest is a great town if you are an active person.

You are absolutely correct, what surrounds Ridgecrest is beautiful. It would make a wonderful home base if you enjoy the outdoors "alot". But Ridgecrest itself, is no desert paradise. Just my opinion.

In my opinion there isn't a town in the world worth living in, except perhaps Venice Italy. Towns should not exist, humans should wander in small hunter gathering groups.
It does appear that the great vast majority of posters on this board are inside people what surrounds a town is of little interest to them.

I think my viewpoint is that most of us spend the majority of time around our homes. Getting out to enjoy the beauty of what surounds us may not happen every weekend. That means we are spending alot of time in the town we live in and what it has to offer.
Your hunter gathering remark was intertesting. I knew a man who wrote a book on the subject with regard to running a business.
