Don't know about 'now' but there used to be good fishin', campin' at Pinto Lake, in Watsonville. It's close to the hospital.

It's right in Soquel center.
Like i said, if the home is really nice you may like it there.
The road that the house is on is a very short one and it runs off Soquel Drive which is the main road that goes all the way from Freedom Blvd. in Aptos to downtown Santa Cruz.
Most of the time, downtown Soquel is fairly mellow with the exception of commuter times in the a.m. and p.m. when many people take Soquel Drive either to get to there homes or to avoid a stretch of the freeway traffic.
And when school lets out it gets a little hectic but a good kind of child hectic-ness.
Again, if the house is a nice one (which ya never know round these parts) living in Soquel center may be appealing.
It's not a fancy area at all but Soquel, generally speaking, is very family friendly and very trouble free.
3 schools (one is the high school and then 2 elementary schools) are very close to Soquel center so there will be lots of kids around in the morning and when the school day ends.
And, like i said above, you'll be able to walk to the beach in Capitola in about 10-15 minutes and most of it is a nice walk (and totally safe) and you can walk to the Ugly Mug for a good cup of coffee ... it's literally just around the corner.
It may be kind of fun but only if the house is nice.
View from the place? I dunno about that.
I'd say it's worth a looksy though.
And btw, Soquel Drive is a straight and easy drive (through Soquel and then Aptos) to Freedom Blvd. which you then can take to get to Watsonville ... it's a really nice way to get there.
And you'd be going the opposite way of most of the commuters in the a.m. and p.m..
I don't know what sewer utility is?
Great to know. Thank you! I've asked for more pictures and an address. This may be the one.

Good looking out.

Do you happen to know if this sunbelt map is accurate? And by any chance do you know of a link where I can find a sunbelt or anti super fog map of the SC area?

I Have a good sense of the fog scene in Santa Cruz county but not so much in the MOnterey area.

(i take it you have an aversion to fog? )

Oh Mtn.Surfer, where are you?
He'll know about fog in Monterey, etc.

But if you want to live near the ocean on the Monterey bay there really is no escaping the fog ... it's just more or less depending on a number of variables.

Scotts Valley in S.C. county may be another area to consider ... much less fog but quite close to S.C. and the ocean and not in the thick of the redwoods like the other communities further up in the S.C. mountains.

Check out this thread discussing the Monterey Sunbelt in detail with pictures I took of it. The Sunbelt is real. I drive in and out of it almost daily. For example I can stand on the beach in the sunbelt many days and see fog to the northeast and southwest of it: http://www.city-data.com/forum/calif...y-sunbelt.html

As far as that map posted in is generally accurate except as I pointed out in the other thread it is typically a bit narrower depending on the day. The central point is generally the Monterey Airport then directly in front it along the coast (Del Monte Beach). And as you move further inland east of the airport there is less fog. I just returned from a friends house off of Corral De Tierra Rd which is off Hwy 68 - behind Laguna Secca Raceway. The weather is sunnier/warmer there typically overall. Our kids were swimming in a pool, it sprinkled, then it was followed by sun and a double rainbow. Man , I wish I had brought my camera!

Jaijai is right in that the sunbelt will not be free of fog, it will just have more sun than the rest of the area. But the same is true of any other central coastal town during summer fog season. Its more about degrees of sun than the complete abscene of it altogether. Coastal Santa Cruz is the same way with different areas which typically get more sun than others. But fog will still occur everywhere at some point. Southern CA even has June gloom which in some Summers can block the sun for a couple of months depending on the year. It was really bad down there last year for example, even in San Diego where we have family.

I think I need to face the facts and just accept it for what it is. Their will be fog whether I like it or not.

Thanks! That links is where I saw the sunbelt map. I hate the fog but I love the beach. It may be the price to pay to try and live not so far inland. Time to man up. Thanks to the both of you for the immense amount of help.

Just a little update. I spent about 5 hours today driving around in Monterey and PG. I actually got the chance to see a nice home in the Skyline Forest area. Not completely sold on it, but I may end up getting it if nothing else comes up in the coming days.

Skyline forest is nice. If the price is reasonable, I suggest you consider it. Easy access in to Monterey without freeway access.

That one is still #1 on my list. I'm just not completely sold on it. It didn't have the "it" factor to it, hard to explain.

Anyone know what the deal is with Del Rey Oaks? From my understanding this is a city separate from Seaside and Monterey. Is that right?
