I hear good things about both but I have never been to either.

I have been to California, many times. Always on business. I've never thought of living there. So, I've never looked at it that way. I'm the guy in the rented, silver convertible annoying the natives with my chain smoking.

Hey, i thought you were "sort of the eco friendly, hybrid driving, metaphysical, book worm, naturalist, sweet natured type."

I have decided that I'll probably need to be around an hour out of Sacramento. We're sending our little guy to a Waldorf school, which is also in Sacramento. Probably best not to be more than an hour out.

I forgot about "red necks" haha. A friend of mine just said the same thing about Pollock Pines. Shoot. What do I know? Red necks in CA?! Preposterous! I thought you guys ran 'em all out of your state back in the sixties.

I know this thread is a couple of months old....but for the OP:
You do know there are a zillion Waldorf charter schools in N. Ca right?
ie, free public charter schools inspired by waldorf philosophy. they utilize the waldorf curriculum along with the CA state standards, minus the more religious based content [legally speaking].

You can google their websites (ie, waldorf charter school in ________town), but here are a few names of towns with waldorf charter schools
nevada city/grass valley has one (as does sacramento)
Napa city
Novato [in marin]
and in Sonoma County, there are several, incuding a new waldorf high school, that just started this fall [in rohnert park]:
k-8 schools:
Petaluma
Sonoma town
Sebastopol has two, actually

All the schools have websites, so check them out. [If you want private, Santa Rosa in Sonoma county has waldorf k-12).
Real estate is far more than 150k budget, however....but the quality of life in Sonoma county is generally high, with incredible farmer's markets, artisan bakeries, restaurants, etc.
Healdsburg is another great town in that area.
And check Forestville, which is the 'lower russian river' area of sonoma county; it would put you in proximity to sebastopol and their waldorf programs-and it's a bit cheaper than sebastopol-which is muy expensive even by sonoma standards.

Hopefully this somewhat late reply will be helpful to you or someone reading this at a later date!
