Hey Andy Rooney I thought you retired.

A lavish waste of money. Could have built it for a lot less.

Great idea. Take a building that should have a 50 year useful life and then say the economy sucks today, so it's a bad idea.

"We won't know for many years whether it's a big boon or a big boondoggle, but there are reasons to be skeptical. The economy shows no overt signs of recovery, Sacramento has been hit particularly hard by the housing meltdown, the region's governmental employment base is in decline, and the era of cheap airfares may have flown its course."

Of course the funding for the project comes from issuing revenue bonds, for which the income source comes from charging the airlines and passengers, not the general public or the general fund. The airlines can complain about the passenger fees they pay and of course those will be passed through to passengers, but last I looked no one is forced to go flying.

From USA Today "The terminal is among the largest construction projects in Sacramento County's history and created 2,400 jobs during the 2 years it was being built, the heart of a recession that has left state and regional unemployment hovering around 12%."

Almost anything being built in Sacramento has to be considered a boondoggle.

Well, not exactly! BART spent $2 million to build a wheel chair ramp to bypass stairs with 27 steps. However, the handicap parking is on the other side of the station. BART ramp project curbs wheelchair access

The same people who complain about jobs in Sacramento are the same ones who complain when we try to compete for those jobs by building a expensive airport terminal or contributing to an entertainment arena downtown.

If we want Sacramento to be competative for corporations we need the appropiate infastructure and entertainment.
