Should I annoy a certain "grumpy person" by saying "Woohoo?"

We are coming out for an interview and to get a feel for the place. I know four days is not enough in this happen' place, but that's all we can spare at the moment

One full day of interviews for hubby and the usual "stuff" companies do when they fly you out.

Apparently someone is going to take me around to see the nice places in Bakersfield.

Then we have about 1 1/2 days to meander on our own.

Any recommendations? Parks, lake, mountain area nearby that we shouldn't miss?

I will be hanging out at the restaurants with gluten free menus. Hopefully they understand that it's not enough to simply have a GF menu

Give me your best ideas please, and no negative Normans need apply

Well, that won't take long. Better have some plans to fill-in the time.

Bring a good book. War and Peace would be my choice to fill empty time.

Lake Isabelle is a large mud puddle but the drive up is nice and Tehachapi has some charm.

Go native. Try one of the several Basque restaurants. Some of them are very good.

Crystal Palace. If you want gluten free dont order anything with flour in it. Steaks and Whisky only.

Wool Growers Restaurant. Again not sure they cater to the GF diet.

Not sure you want to hit the strip club.

I would suggest the Basque cuisine at Noriega's, but the gluten-free research part is up to you.

Here's their menu: Noriega's Menu

See, you actually had something good to say about old Bako

WTH There is a strip club in Bakersfield? My stars. The way some described the area, I was expecting to see more prayer groups around town

And I swear, I didn't pay the sir to say good things about Bakersfield.

I've never been to the Basque restaurant or the Woolgrowers either.

If you want a good old fashioned experiencing with American food such as authentic hamburger, visit Moo Creamery. Moo Creamery

There are many good restaurants in Bakersfield but my mind is blank at the moment.

I am thinking more "healthy fare". Hamburgers I avoid because of the bread, and also because no one can guarantee me there won't be cross contamination. I probably just ought to hit the grocery store. They're putting us in Homewood suites? Supposed to have a kitchen. No one can cook better than I can (gluten free) that is. We'll see.

Are you SURE you didn't pay our esteemed friend to say good things? Maybe he was drinking moonshine. I hear those folks in Ozarks get up to all sorts of weird things

...and ain't nothin' weirder than sayin' sumpin good about Bakers.

Try the Wool Growers. Last I knew it was in a sketchy part of town but the food was quite authentic. My partner and I (both armed) stopped there for lunch occasionally!

Also, you can make it to Sequoia National Park, they even have Amtrak going there. If Bakersfield has anything going for it, it's the proximity to Sequoia.
