In California or in the rest of the country?

There's places similar to the California side of the lake--northshore towns like Tahoe City or over in Truckee--in places like Colorado or Montana or Idaho, but I can't think of anywhere like the Nevada side where you have huge casinos on a giant sub-alpine lake with ski areas next to them. In California, Mammoth Lakes is very similar as well.

Kinda, sorta, but not really....June Lake comes to mind. Beautiful place with residential areas; no real towns though.

Scenery? Sure, maybe 10 other places in North America(several of which are found in the Sierra).

Lifestyle, sure.

Both in one place? Nope.

Closest is probably Mammoth Lakes without the gambling or single large lake. You have the Mammoth Lake(s) and a whole bunch of cool places around it if you like the outdoors. I actually like that area more for the great High Sierra features and access. Its a smaller ski town with beautiful scenery.

Nothing in SoCal compares including Big Bear or Lake Arrowhead, not even close.

I agree and Mammoth is the closest thing to Tahoe in terms of overall scenery and scene in California. Personally I even like some of the hiking in the High Sierra around Mammoth more than I do the terrain around Tahoe which tends to be lower in elevation. Tahoe has the attraction though of being one of the most beautiful lakes in the world as well as having the highest concentration of ski areas.
