Usually I think about that most when I'm out shooting in the dark. One time while shooting in Yosemite alone in the middle of the night I saw something big moving around. I happended to be shooting from a bridge with tripod and all my gear. As I turned my headlamp to investigate I saw a very large bear on the other end of the bridge checking me out as it moved closer! So I just raised my hands and spoke very loudly at him. Fortunately he turned slowly and moved on.

The ones in Yosemite are more like Teddy bears.... they're harmless, just want to see if they can steal food. That fattie probably hoped to be fed lol. If you camp wilderness style near that *certain* developed high-elevation camp in Yosemite bears will come to you at night and sniff your face... and they'll be all over your camp site even in that developed campground--no worries. Might wake up one day with a bear snuggling in your sleeping bag there as well!

Personally, I hate casual conversation in the campground "facilities" --
umm, why I switched to a "night bottle" ...
