I live in Lake Tahoe and are looking for a change. I love the scenery and lifestyle, but it's a very transient place and hard to make a living. Is there any place in Cali similar to Lake Tahoe (scenery and pace of life)?

Cali, Colombia is in South America. You will want to post in the international forums.

Duplicate post, but at least you provided a bit more info in this one. Free Spirit, do you really know what you are looking for? Most Mountain Ski Towns, like Tahoe, tend to be similar in that they are hard to make a living in and a bit tansient - here for ski season, gone tommorrow. I don't know how a place can be like Tahoe, yet have abundant job opportunities and a longer term residents. Many in these towns actually live there part of the year as a vacation home and somewhere else the rest of the year.

You may have to come down from the mountain for those other things, possibly the foothills where you could drive into the city for more jobs opportunities. But night life won't be the same if that's what you mean. The coast has a lot of options and more jobs depending on where you look and what you can do.

There is no place in Cali like Lake Tahoe, Cali is urban with no lakes and few parks, and very few English speakers.

It isn't hard to make a living in Tahoe, as evidenced by all the people that live there. I managed a very happy and successful 40 years there. You need to figure what you want to do that will allow you to stay, remember that most of California is downhill from Tahoe.

Tough to find, but Big Bear in the mountains NE of LA, does have some similarities. High, about 500 feet higher even than SLT, lots of outdoor recreation, economy highly dependent on tourism. No gambling of course. More isolated than Lake Tahoe, tough mountain drives in or out. For more, can start right here on CD, on the Big Bear homepage.

Anywhere in the U.S.?
'Cause i see your posting on the CO forum too.
It sound like you want a resort town in or west of the rockies?
Yes? No?
Lots of choices.
To list a few:

Telluride, CO.
Aspen, CO.
Vail, CO.
Breckinridge, CO
Jackson Hole, WY.
Sun Valley, ID.

What do you want? You're so minimal and unspecific in your posts.

If you are looking to do the whole snow-carnie thing, skip South Lake Tahoe. For most it is a world of Low Wages and a high cost of living, illegal immigrants, and meth-tweakers. If youre a ski bum or snowboarder lookin to live the life for a while, just do the smart thing and head to summit county colorado.
