Why should someone in Utah pay for the east coast's cheap trains?

There's no data to support it benefits anything but the unioinsts who build them and the unionists who operate them.

30 Million people use Mass Transit in the Northeast out of the 50 million who live here.....it benefits alot of the small businesses who have there businesses located next to the tracks , which in turns drives the economy. A large of chunk of the Middle Class uses trains and Mass Transit...they drive the economy in this country.... Why should I pay for Utah's Trains and Airport expansions..... there's billions of Federal $$$ going out there and to other states....

Wouldn't it be cheaper to upgrade Amtrak so it can handle 100MPH service than to build a new high speed rail system from scratch?

You don't do things because they make sense here in california. Maybe in 1961, but not now. Now we do things because "it looks pretty" and "sounds nice".

The Freight companies who let Amtrak use there lines do want to upgrade to that speed....but if they cooperated then it would be possible to do that and build the HSR at a cheaper cost...
