Check out rentals in the classified ads of the San Jose Mercury News San Jose Mercury News - Home. Also check out rentals in Sunnyvale (neat Mtn View) as there are a lot of apts there.

If you're looking for furnished, you might try Oakwood Apartments in Mountain View on Middlefield Road. I lived there for a few months when I was relocating (my company put me up there). They aren't the nicest places (they're older, and my first unit had mice, but they moved me to another unit), but if you're on a tight budget, you'll be hard pressed to find anything in Mountain View.
