Well after last weeks Santa Ana Wind experience, all you need is some heavy rain albeit lacking the storm surge to get a Hurricane experience. Then again, that will mean mudslides and then if there is an earthquake the illegals won't be able to dig all of you out.

The South and Texas are portrayed that way too, when in reality it snows in a lot of the South, and it's regularly below freezing in Texas.

The other thing is a lot of people think Texas is a big desert... because of all those westerns filmed in Italy and California.

A California Sorel story. We used to snow mobile 5 miles from our home to the highway where my truck was parked Where we would remove the sno mo suit to our street clothes, remove the sorels and put on street shoes. My boy was in 8th grade. One morning we get to the truck and he tells me that he forgot his shoes. I told him he would have to wear his sorels to school, he told me, "no way". (It is very un cool in Truckee schools to wear sno boots or a warm jacket, those are for old people and gapers (tourists) )

He refused to get out the Truck, I had push him out, he went straight to the office and told them he could not go to school as he did not have shoes, they understanding 8th graders found him a pair of loaner tennies.

ta da, he could attend his classes.

So why is it so often portrayed differently in movies and other cultural references?
I know my comment is probably irrelevent to the conservation (as I don't live in California), but I really don't know why California is portrayed in movies and is known for having an endless summer. My family used to live in the bay Area back in the 80s and my mom tells me to this day it is one of the coldest places she has ever lived. I am starting to think my home state of Florida is the state with the true endless summer. I watching the news this morning and the rest of the country seems to be experiencing either cold, snow, thunder storms, or those santa ana winds while south FL is expected to be in the 80s all week. Can't say I am not a happy camper

For now anyway.

Having lived in Texas for 5 years, I have to disagree. I don't think it ever went below zero. At least not where I lived. We generally have mild winters.
