I am moving from my hometown in California to Virginia and would like to know if there's anyone else doing the same thing or have moved from there to California .
How was the transition?
what's it like on the east coast?
I am 21, What is there to do in VA?
are there jobs there?
Are you happy with the move?

i went to school in richmond, va for a semester with intentions to graduate from the university i attended. needless to say, i moved back home. it's not that it was a bad place, i just preferred CA because of the lifestyle and it is where most of my family is located. i did make friends that i still keep in touch with, but i don't think i could ever call VA home.

I'm from the Northeast but moved out here. Well, it's complicated... military kid, but mostly raised in the NE; however, I spent my early teens in Washington State and then moved back to Boston at 13. Mind you, WA is different from CA, and MA is different from VA... but one thing I will say: all through my teens in Cambridge, Mass, I'd meet CA transplants who were at one of the universities, had moved for work, or were there due to family who were doing just that. Not a single one stayed.

Now, that's not to say it hasn't happened - it definitely has. But it's a different social structure, and a lot of people have a hard time adapting. One thing that's definitely a "pro" to a lot of people, it's much easier to find serious relationships that lead to marriage in big cities in the Northeast than it is in big cities in CA (per my, my friend's, and many acquaintances' experiences).

Ultimately, YMMV and you'll make your own judgement. Good luck!
