Undesirable is pretty darned subjective. Many Californians would consider living in an urban area highly undesirable, others would find it desirable.

I consider Arvin far more desirable than the Santa Monica hills, others wouldn't.

I find it odd that the OP is asking for financial advice on an on-line forum. A better source of info would be a financial planner.

Most Financial Planners are in debt themselves. I rented office space to a well known American Express ' Financial Planner ', and he was always late paying the rent and he had serious $ problems.

FPss idea of planning money now-a-days ... Roll of the dice.

My advice: Use you're own common sense judgement.

I advise .... Never employ the servcies of a Financial Planner ... Complete waste of $.

Your hard earned Dollar ( or Portfolio ) is being controlled by greedy Jewish men on Wall Street.

Use common sense when diversifing: RE, Gold, Stocks, invest in local business, etc.

Don't do it.

Just for the record....my initial post in this thread pretty much a joke post. Sorry.

Anyway, on a more serious note, a lot of people in this area (South SF Bay Area) are two-income households (sometimes more than that). Those who are single-income, either have high-paying jobs or live in more modest arrangements.

There's also, of course, many people who paid off their homes before the market really exploded in the 90s.
