For the first time since 1924 there is a wild wolf in California. A few days ago a 2 1/2 year old male dubbed OR7 crossed the border from Oregon into Siskiyou County. The young male has been a bit of a media sensation, with broad coverage in newspapers, TV, and the Web. The wolf split off from his pack in Oregon, where there are an estimated 25 wolves, and has traveled far. Completely unknown is what will happen next. The wolf might return to Oregon, cross into Nevada, or stay in California. Other wolves may enter California and form a pack. The wolf could also die from starvation or disease or be killed by humans. The reintroduction of the wolf has been very controversial, with emotions often overiding logic on both sides of the issue. There have been many threads on the Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho forums on this topic.

Especially given DFG's wonderful track record of Wildlife management in this state with all the wonderful interference from the legislature and County Sups.

Yeah. Imagine. Wildlife roaming -- well -- wild! Where will it all end? Speaking of scrambling fighter jets! Man's supremacy is challenged -- call out the Guard! Phbbbbt.

Are these Wolves of original stock or the larger ones from Canada that aren't exactly indigenous.

Methinks the ranchers here aren't really indigenous so I wouldn't get too deep into who's indigenous who's not. I'm crossing my fingers to hear that grizzly bears are back. What a travesty for the state to have a grizzly on their flag, why it's the very same people who carry the flag had exterminated the bears. I don't even want to read redneck comments posted in other threads, as one can guess what these would be.... lies and nothing else. Listen to them, even the black bears are hella dangerous and are ready to eat anything in sight.

I'd prefer it to eat all of the concrete jungle bunny humpers first

That's not a grizzly bear on the state flag. It's a California Brown Bear, and there are plenty of those still around in California. They like to take swims in peoples backyard pools.

Oy Vey. It is a California Grizzly Bear other wise known as the Golden Bear on the state flag. Which is extinct.

The only species of bear that inhabits California currently is the Black Bear.
