I'm with you. My mother was from New York and remembered them fondly when one of their burgers cost a nickel. I finally tried one in Ohio when I was back there for a son's wedding about 10 years ago. Disgusting!

I can take you to some real food places. Of course, you'll be paying the tab. My S2 comes with a price.

The best sausage gravy I've EVER had (and I grew up around two deep South g'mothers) is across the street from the West Valley Detention Center in Etiwanda, about 4 miles from me. (Tole House Cafe)

Then there's this gem: Freddie Mae's Southern Cooking

What normal restaurants in California serve food like that? I've only see that in high end restaurants and it had nothing to do with "California cuisine".

I associate Cracker Barrel with vacations. I'll usually eat there when when I'm somewhere that has one. If I had one down the street, I don't think I'd go there very often.

Sounds to me as if Fontucky has the handle on the "real" restaurants in California.
