I understand Diane Feinstein introduced a bill to upgrade the California Desert Protection Act of 1994, in order to expand the protected area network in Cali's deserts. You can find a wealth of information about those lands and the proposal from a quick internet search. However, what you can not find out is how well this bill is actually going. One US government website that tracks bills in congress said that it is being referred to the committee. You can find that here...S. 138: California Desert Protection Act of 2011 (GovTrack.us) However, that's all it says about where the bill is. There is no additional information on what the committee is doing, when it should be done, when the bill will actually go to vote, etc. Does anyone know exactly what is going on "in the committee" with this bill? Has anyone heard anything else?

This does not affect private land within the outer boundaries;
