Orcutt is Not Santa Maria. Orcutt is a Town, or CDP(Census Designated Place). However it is in the Santa Maria Valley which consist of Santa Maria, Orcutt, And Guadalupe. If you are familiar to the area you would know that all 3 are quite different. Orcutt is for the most part everything South of Betteravia, Santa Maria for the most part everything North. Orcutt is definetly the nicer town and place to live in. The elementary schools May Grisham, Patterson, Dunlap, etc good schools. JR Highs Orcutt and Lakeview good schools. High schools Righetti and St Joe SIGNIFICANTLY better schools than those in Santa Maria. Santa Maria is starting to become more and more infested with gangs which is sad. Orcutt has very very very minor gang problems, all the gang incidents you hear of come from SM. but gangs could very easily make there way into Orcutt. Now AALLL the Santa Maria Valley is Agriculture based, brocolli fields, strawberry fields, vineyards, lots. Orcutt, Santa Maria, Guadalupe all surrounded by fields of produce just the way it is. As people have said in other posts there are ALOT of farmers, cowboys, and ranchers and the rodeo is very popular. just the way it is around here. For the most part if you wear wranglers, boots, and drive a pickup you will fit right in. This also isnt a very liberal town, not very "artsy" or whatever you would like to call it and isnt what most people would expect California to be like. Orcutt IS a smaller town, not the smallest though compared to others around 30,000. You for the most part see the same people at the store and football games. It being a smaller there isnt much shopping or activities. But there is great shopping in San Louis Obispo and Santa Barbara. And things to do there too. When it comes to being culturally diverse, you mostly have caucasions and latinos (mostly mexicans). Thats about as diverse as it gets and for the most part the latino population lives in either Santa Maria and Gaudalupe, but that doesnt meen there arent any in Orcutt. But bottom line Orcutt is NOT Santa MAria nor "South Santa MAria", it is very different. As I said if you are familiar with the area you would kno this

I lived in Orcutt for a little while, finished high school there (against my will).

Santa Maria is okay, small and really boring, and many parts of it are kinda..dumpy. I would not recommend living there if you're looking for a nightlife, or if you hate commuting to somewhere else to find something to do. I ESPECIALLY would not recommend moving there if you have teenagers.. they'll be bored out of their skulls, even if they do exracurricular activities or get themselves a job.

Apart from that, Orcutt is a nice place, just a bit on the expensive side. My parents spent $360k on a house that (in my opinion) more closely resembles a double-wide trailer than an actual home.

Fix the economcs fix the gangs. I fail to see why anyone gets worked up over gangs, they really don't have much to do with the white middle class.
This is coming from a guy who lives in Los Osos? I believe you've mentioned living on Clark Valley Rd. Why don't you come on into town and drive around the numbered streets. How far down the economic rung are you talking about? I see a lot of brand new cars driven by Mexican immigrants who have been coming here in the last 20yrs. It's their kids (who are now teenagers) pulling this crap. These people aren't exactly poor. SLO County isn't exactly cheap to live in. Why would you need to be in a gang in Los Osos? It's nonsense to think you need protection around here. Around here it's cultural, IMO. But not in the sense of their parents being in gangs. It's all about being "Mexican". And, Yes, whether you like it or not, they ARE slowly making Los Osos worse.

As far as Elks and Rotary people being sheep, explain that to me? I joined the Elks in SLO for the swimming pool. As a lot of young prents have. If that makes me a sheep, so be it.

Bored? You dredged up a year old post? And failed to read the guys posts. A brief scan shows, he was from Santa Maria, not Los Osos, and heck, I cannot think of a street called Clark Valley Road, but I don't know everything, contrary to Curmudgeons thinking.

But more importantly, I read your paragraph several times, and I cannot figure out the subject, forgive me.

But then again, I don't know what a prent is.

I would not worry about being a sheep. Most Americans are, they like their Bed Bath and Beyond, their Chili's, Their Old Navy, every town looking like every town, they hate being too cold or too hot.

Not bored. I've just been away from CD for a bit and Clarks annoys the hell out of me. Clarks may have grown up in Santa Maria, but I'm pretty sure he lives in Los Osos. Clark Valley Rd. is across from the cemetery on Los Osos Valley Rd.

Clarks said "fix the economics fix the gangs". I was just pointing out that that is crap when it comes to SLO County

prent? I forgot an a. That happens sometimes when you type

Map of 2310 Clark Valley Rd Los Osos, California by MapQuest

found that in 10 seconds on Yahoo. Do your homework.

I think you are operating from some sort of "virtual certainty" that does not allow for variant data.

Tell me, do you know of or have you ever heard of gang members who hold good jobs, have college educations, are architects, or auto repair shop owners, or manage hotels, or are railroad engineers, or growers (not pot, legal commercial farming) or park rangers.

To deny that economics cures gang problems is to state that one does not understand the reasons for gangs.

You seem to be hung up on Clark Valley Road, why? Can you find anywhere on City Data where Clark Valley Road has been used? Very strange.

I got the idea that you would expect me to be familiar with every street in, what? Los Osos? San Luis Obispo County? The entire Central Coast?

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to make a clarification. Santa Maria extends way south of Betteravia Road. Santa Maria is actually pretty much everything north of Santa Maria Way. Just because those are nice neighborhoods doesn't mean it's Orcutt. To the dismay of many, Santa Maria does have nice middle class neighborhoods.

The Santa Maria City Limit line ends just pass or short of Kmart, my dad works for Santa Barbara country. If any would know it would be a SB county employee, and like i said before "most part." Again ow, Orcutt is not Santa Maria. There is a reason people move into Orcutt, to get out of Santa Maria because it has dropped so low.
