If so, a giant sized version of Greece would be just around the corner. Even worse, the state might descend into anarchy and explode in all out civil war along racial, or more likely, political lines. The Marxists now running the state would declare the US Constitution null and void, and that would be the spark that would set things off. More likely would be a mass exodus, as millions fled the state. No, a sensible division into several states with all remaining in the Union much more practical.

California isn't really like Greece. The constitution of California prevents the government(s) from running a deficit.

Further, if we became our own country, the U.S constitution would be null and void because it would now be a foreign document with no applicability - If we retained the state constitution, it would require consent of the populace to nullify it.

Finally, to which marxists do you refer?

If this had even a remote possibility of happening, it would've already happened given the state of the State for the last three or so years.

As long as our attention remains fixated on the important issues like the availability of tasty fish tacos, access to beaches, reliable cell phone service, lesbian teenage high school prom queen/king/its, applauding black men who marry and reproduce with white women, making sure that enough Latinos are serving on the City Council, and continuing to let Caleb Pootywinkle from Brainerd, MN believe he really will be the next Steven Spielberg when he moves to LA because he uploaded videos to YouTube and was in his high school drama club, all will be good.

We don't care about this mumbo-jumbo about deficits, unsustainable spending to tax ratios, hostile business climates, congressional incompetence that borders on criminal, etc.

This is California. We have our priorities. "Cars" land at Disneyland opened today. And Lindsay Lohan continues to be persecuted because she just got her twenty-fourth DUI from some loser policeman who obviously has nothing better to do with this time.

The ones now holding every single statewide elective office and most of the seats in the assembly and state senate. Only they don't call themselves that, instead they define themselves as "Liberals", or even more likely, "Progressives." In the sci-fi scenario of an independant California, one of the very first things these Bolsheviks would do is void the Second Amendment and declare all firearms to be unlawful, and to start a massive state wide seizing of all guns. At least they would try, because this would be the spark that would ignite insurrection and civil war, as millions of Californians would refuse to surrender their guns.

God forbid that someone interrupts your little dream about how perfect America is. Yes a land of drunken hillbillies. Where everybody has a rusted 50 year old car buried in their backyard. And nothing is ever wrong unless the president is a Liberal. And Rainbow and Puppies fall from the sky. And everything is right with the world as long as billys parents cant afford his medical payments. Yes God Forbid.

Yes if CA were to attempt secession, many would leave but that's how it should be. Quite often in secession movements around the world, that's how it is.

CA would only descend into civil war if those who didn't want to be here stayed. Also historically, when the richest sub-national entity secedes from it's nation, it's almost always better for that entity that left. It sucks for the poorer regions left behind.

Splitting CA is a conservatives dream. The new states would be less powerful as the "dreaded liberals" will now be divided. Someone mentioned divide and conquer earlier and that's exactly what this would be about. No more would the state with the most electoral votes be reliably blue. Conservatives are only kidding themselves if they think the rest of us don't realize this.

I note a distinct lack of specificity...
