A neighbor of mine is $750.00 behind in her electric bill with SCE. Her husband is on oxygen & something ese that requires power. They are having a rough time financially now. She told SCE that she cant pay anything right now & they told her that if she dont pay her bill they will have her husband removed from the home & shut off her power. I told her they cant do that. Am i right ? Without electricity her husband will die.

That's why they'll call APS for his removal. They can't remove him, but they can call the people who will.

Ask her if she's on the medical baseline rate.

And make sure that the smart meter (if their residence is equipped with one) has actually been smart or has inaccurately read their power usage.
They are often not accurate but i don't know how this is verified.
Protesting the bill / smart meter readings may buy them some time at least.

That's why i suggested that they contest their bill using the smart meter's readings. (if there is one attached to their rental)

Since SCE installed the smart meters their profits have greatly increased & now they are requesting another rate increase. Since 2008 rates have more then doubled. How anyone can trust any utility company ill never understand. They are as bad a polticians, oil companies & all those other greedy rat bastards in the world.

Have they? I'm certainly not paying double the electric bill now compared to 08, and my usage has gone up since then due to exterior lighting being installed on 09.

Actually, I think Tier 1 based rate is 4.5 cents per kWh before taxes and fees (13.5 cents w/ that stuff). But I think his point was that electric bills have not doubled since then. Mine certainly have not.
