There are a number of Arroyo Secos in CA,, ephemeral, run during winter spring, but the Arroyo Seco River runs well year round, dunno why it got that name.

Holy mackerel, I'm mixing up zanja with ganja here.
Anyone know what the history behind Alameda de las Pulgas (Mall/Avenue of the Fleas) here in San Mateo?

Dunno, but there is an old rail stop in the Feather River Canyon called Pulga.

Guess the Spanish liked the name.

Absolutely. And it can be spoken with different accents. I have a distinct Tijuana accent and I'm mucho proud of it.

Hola Isabel, como estas?

Estoy bien gracias, e tu?

Gracias Senior Fox. An amazing amount of it sunk in.

Calaveras is the Spanish word for skull. My community was founded as El Dorado Camp, but when they went to apply for a post office, El Dorado was already taken so they "borrowed" the name of the next settlement and now it's Mountain Ranch.

I like the way CA has progressed. Steal it from the Indians, steal it from the Spanish (I'm talking Ranchos after the Mexican American war), now we're looking at Latino's becoming the majority of residents. Perhaps someday, the Indians will get it back.
