I also think that for most people and applications 1.5mbps is perfectly adequate. I may be showing my age on that though.
I remember when 1200 baud seemed fast.

Faster than 98% of the US. But Bumfick, Washington is faster! That's why I'm moving there, so C-D loads in 2 milliseconds rather than the 3 it now takes.

Ok, we made it to Coarsegold today. Connection speed is at 1.2mpbs. Wow, I guess if I lived in California I would think this was fast.

Seriously guys, ARE there any plans to upgrade internet access in California. I read in the papers you guys are spending BILLIONS on the technology of the 10th Century (Windmills) and the 19th Century (Trains).

Is there anybody talking about improving the internet infrastructure in California??

By the way, if you read the USA Today article it was 5 million (not billion) to set up an wi-fi cloud over Umatilla County, Oregon for a population of 11,000 people.

Come on, you guys have that many people stuck in traffic!! What is 5 million dollars in California?? Chump change.

What is the problem??

What is this thread even about? The lack of super fast wi-fi throughout the entire state?

Does the average user even notice anything above 10 mb/s?

This guy's either a T word, at which he's been mildly successful, or he actually bases quality of life on internet speeds. Or both. Either way, it's been a somewhat amusing interlude, but has now gotten stale.

For average web surfing, I'd say there's little difference between 10Mbit and 30Mbit. For downloading files, its a big difference. But even if an end-user has 1Gbit (ignoring that wifi doesn't get anywhere close to that and even a wired Ethernet connection would have to run at 100% efficiency to see it) how many web sites are going to pump 1Gbit to a single user? How many sites even have that much bandwidth in total? I'd really like to see someone's speedtest.net result showing 1Gbit speed. Even then, ISPs will do things to allow high burst speeds which look good on a test but slow down significantly with sustained use. I saw a once that did a much longer test and suddenly everyone's "20Mbit" cable was more like 5Mbit.
