Hunting is one thing, making a big deal about it is quite another. I have a friend, his wife, a grandmother kills pigs frequently. like, several times a month. She does not make a big deal of it, nor does she think it any more manly than killing rats or gophers, it is just a task that needs doing.

Exactly.

No rise = backfire.

Wait .... didn't you just agree with calfreethinker that bullfighting was the sin of "speciesism"?

If bullfighting is "speciesism", then isn't hunting also "speciesism" in its most extreme form?

Please clarify your views on speciesism. Thank you.

Seriously, dclamb3, you've got to help me out with this whole "speciesism" thing. Why should bullfighting be illegal (as calfreethinker said and you affirmed) but hunting be legal? I'm really trying to get into your brain on this. Please connect the dots for me! Thank you.

Agree. Those who make a big deal out of it do so because they know pigs/deer/ducks will never shoot back at them. It's false bravado.

for the uneducated haters on this thread,

"Speciesism is the assigning of different values or rights to beings on the basis of their species membership. The term was created by British psychologist Richard D. Ryder in 1973 to denote a prejudice against non-humans based on physical differences that are given moral value. "I use the word 'speciesism'," he wrote in 1975, "to describe the widespread discrimination that is practised by man against other species ... Speciesism is discrimination, and like all discrimination it overlooks or underestimates the similarities between the discriminator and those discriminated against."
