They deserve it, if for no other reason than their free-tuition policy for needy students.

And they just raised tuition by 3pct, which is slightly odd.

Nothing wrong with the 1% paying more. They can afford it.

Yeah, Stanford's policy is similar to those of other prestigious universities like Harvard, Yale, etc. If you can afford it, you pay full price -- which is steep. But if you can't afford it, you pay a lot less, in many cases nothing at all. Their rule is that money should never be the reason you decide not to go there.

As long as donations to any "nonprofit" like colleges are tax-deductible, colleges are just a scam subsidized by innocent taxpayers
And "donations" are just a way for wealthy to evade taxes and force other taxpayers to subsidize their "giving back" (and buying admissions to elite colleges for their kids/grandkids)
As long as feds subsidize college loans, taxpayers foot bill for absurdly priced college "education" for kids w/dubious job-relevant skills post-any college
Almost none of most productive engineers in SV are Stanford undergrad alums (lots of Stanford CS PhD dropouts and plain college dropouts)....and those who attended any college rarely ascribe their skills or career success to any college/prof....truly talented have been self-taught for past 50+yrs
If anything, tech industry innovation and wealth creation have exposed how irrelevant is concept of a costly bricks and mortar college, whether Stanford CS or some crap state engineering college (like the ones the GOOG co-founders attended)...let alone some useless lib arts college like Stanford non-Engg or Harvard, which may have been interesting as a time-killer for trust fund kids 100yrs ago, but amusingly museum like in past 25+yrs for anyone upwardly mobile seeking useful skills to be relevant in real world of lucrative industries like tech or finance or o&g...

Let's properly tax the rich SV "engineers" including those that came out of Stanford, especially those who made their money on worthless "internet startups" crap... and 6 billion will seem like nuthin, baby.
