I like the sound of that, altho it's too bad that high cost of living in urban cores are not appealing for families so they rather live far out in the suburbs where it's cheaper.

Most of California is suburban. And yes the suburbs are definitely having shopping centers, far out sprawl developments, and being secluded from where homeless and crime clustered in downtown cores.

As long as the developer and Macy's abide by the city's ordinances and the developer or Macy's fork out enough cash, then they will see a new department store. And people are supporting these retail establishments as I saw tons of people driving by Dick's Sporting Goods today and tons of people at the Target shopping center.

SLO has a bunch of Democrats, but I believe most of them are Conservative on economic issues. The City Council has been conservative on economic issues anyways. The council is for growth, but for smart growth.
It must really be dead there if you're mentioning a store called flip flop sandals.

This is part of the Agenda 21 master plan to move people from rural area to the "population" areas. They do this in communist countries to control the population. They build massive housing developments along a super transportation corridor where mass transit moves people to and from work sites. They don't want people living outside of these areas.

A topic wouldn't be complete without our resident conspiracy theorist chiming in.

I read in the Las Vegas paper, recently, about some massive redevelopment project for downtown Hollywood, with 40-50 story condo's/apt.'s. The developer wishes to develop a New York City type urban neighborhood there. The article stated that there would be many more meetings with neighborhood groups before a shovel goes into the ground.

And knowing something about the powerful, anti-development Califor-Nimbian groups in Califor-Nimbia, my guess it will be 2050 before any shovel goes into the ground, and by then, those buildings will be scaled down to 5 and 10 stories?

Among the neighborhood complaints in the article: it will create too much congestion!

The truth? It may dilute the value of my over-priced home, and when I go to sell, I'll only be able to buy 3 homes elsewhere in the country?

New York City type urban neighborhoods work well in NYC because they have that wonderful mass transit system. "It will create too much congestion" is a valid concern because almost everyone living there will have to have cars.

According to the article, apparently so or not, there's a subway stop or 2 now in downtown Hollywood. True or False?
