That's great you have that much money to start out with. It will go faster than you can imagine though.
Nothing in life is a 100% guaranteed success. I will guarantee that you will go through hard times and that you'll learn a lot if you're able to ask and answer for yourself important questions that will come up when you're in the middle of your adventure.
No road taken is the wrong road, if it becomes a learning experience that helps you choose better in the future.
Discretion (really: caution) is the better part of valor.
At this stage, I'm more a pragmatist and would follow what Tyger recommended, but no one really knows how things will turn out, it's just that you want to give yourself the best odds in any endeavor.

Has it ever occurred to you that those who are achievers did so through determination and resilience? Did you ever stop to think that setting your mind to achieve and then doing something about it will likely give you a better chance of "success" than just "accepting your current fate in life"?
I do not agree with you at all here, not in the least bit.
The individual who started this thread will have a better chance of success by attempting to execute their plan than by staying put.
While you are clearly writing rhetorical questions, I will answer as if you actually were interested in a response:
First though, I'll point out that I posted my football player "exercise" not in response to the OP, at all ... it was in response to
http://www.city-data.com/forum/22958580-post61.html written by member CSD610.
Now to your questions, however rhetorical:
No. I do have a very clear idea. As a monitor reading my posts you are certainly aware of how very much I have taken bold chances throughout my life, without knowing outcomes in advance: leaving home age 14, quitting school, joining military, volunteering for war, marriage / parenting at a very young age, numerous independent entrepreneurial ventures, living the alternative camping and boating lifestyle I do. There isn't much about risk and taking chances I don't know.
And do you think that I achieved my education, restoration of health, and independent financial security -- without determination and resilience?
The reason I suggest this is a troll thread is that it follows a plot line executed by [a] proven troll[s] at least three times in less than the past two years on this forum. I wrote nothing for pages and pages while I read -- until the OP devolved his fantasy into camping in a tent in big city public spaces while pursuing a college degree.
I ask you: does that sound like a potential plan for success made by a well thought out individual?
I think not.
I think it is either a troll,
or just plain nuts ...
and if
not a troll, the young man shouldn't be encouraged to think "anything can come true if you are determined and resilient" -- because, that is just not the case. Even
with planning, resources, determination, resilience, intelligence, and talent -- huge percentages of people fail to achieve their dreams and goals -- especially when they are unrealistic and ill-founded.
And, btw: there is another troll thread -- separate from this one and with a different screen name -- running on this forum right now, as well. And I note that several other members I pointed my troll stick at over recent months are now "
No longer a member ".

Right. The issue I'm having right now is.. In Florida if I go live with my grandparents, they'll make me go to school this year and pay the 9000 for first years tuition.
BUT it's easily doable because I come from a low income family and it'd all be covered in loans and grants.
Anyways the real issue is do I chance wasting all of my money living in LA for a few months or do I leave right now to Jacksonville and start there? All friends and family are telling me you can live anywhere in the country doing what I'm doing so basically I feel like its highly unlikely I fail, but still it's a risk. You know?

You were able to save 5K because someone else was helping pay the bills, right? You have some nice grandparents who are willing to put you up and pay your tuition too. They're looking out for you. You have some security there with them and maybe you can do some nice things for them in return.
I don't Jacsonville, but I imagine there are some pluses to the area. Shoot, I wouldn't mind being there for warm weather sailing and places to sail to. California will still be here when you finish your studies and you'll likely be poised to get a much better paying job at that point as well.

That said -- while I don't do a lot of quoting of others -- I will offer you a ponder from the Tao Teh King with a brief interpretation:
“Banish ‘wisdom,’ discard ‘knowledge,’ and the people shall profit a hundredfold. Banish ‘humanity,’ discard ‘justice,’ and the people shall recover love of their kin. Banish cunning, discard ‘utility,’ and the thieves and brigands shall disappear. As these three touch the externals and are inadequate, the people have need of what they can depend upon: “Reveal thy simple self,
Embrace thy original nature,
Check thy selfishness,
Curtail thy desires.”
(Tao Teh King 19).
"T he Taoists were very outspoken in their opinion of Confucius and Confucianism as nothing more than busybodies that had ruined society by advocating veneer rather than solid substance. Jesus spoke of this as “the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees” (Matthew 5:20). Neither he nor the Taoists were listened to very much–he withdrew to India and the Taoists to solitary places in the countryside. It is wisdom to know when nobody really wants to hear or think about what you have to say, and greater wisdom when you consequently go away and keep silent ."
The Taoists sound pretty judgmental to me. And bigoted against Confucians. Apart from that, the above passage makes no sense whatsoever. If this is what you fill your head with no wonder you can't think straight.

Hey Mets,
If you really wanna do this and are serious about it, then you should get planning and make it happen. This site is a great place to get started. I moved to San Diego April of 2010 without a job but I had a plan, resources, and a strong will to succeed and I bet you have all of those things too, just keep working on it and maybe by late spring or early summer you can do it.
A part of me wishes I would have done it at your age too. Instead I waited until a few years after I graduated college and had worked 2.5 years in my field to save up and make it happen. I am happy I waited as I had more field experience and financial resources than at 19, but a part of me wishes I would have been more adventurous as a youngster and lived it up a bit more. Either way I'm here now and I love my life more than ever.
If you really want this, then go and make it happen. You can couch surf for a few months while you work grunt jobs and look for a job in your field. However, I strongly discourage you from doing the tent idea. You'll be able to find a cheap room (or even shared room) to live in for cheap if you look hard enough and are flexible. You have to be flexible though and patient. Getting out and meeting new people when you first get here is also a great way to make friends and network (which is key). I met some new friends my first week here who helped pass my resume around. Someone else here recommended a college town, that is a great idea. LA and San Diego are great and you can find affordable (though not ideal) living situations in both places.
Good luck and report back!

No; my dad won a court case as he was in a car accident and he said he wants to give me 5k to start my life. And my grandparents are immigrants that barely speak English but they love me. That's the situation in in. I'm trying to think realistic here. I think that with the LA plan I'll be fine, but it's a risk.

And above poster, the tent idea was just a lack for a better word, "retarded" idea as I was extremely excited that night and had heard of a story about some college kid doing that and being successful, but I'm the rule, not the exception.

I'm not surprised you can't grasp this. It takes a very open mind as well as an erudite one ... a curious dichotomy, seemingly contradictory. Much of ancient oriental philosophy is disarmingly, and charmingly simplistic though, once a person is willing to let themselves step outside of the box. The concept of Wu wei, for instance, is one a person can ponder for many years and never stop being delighted at what can be found.
Thinking straight? I don't jitterbug around false erudition. I am nothing but straight.
