I was born and raised in CA, have pulled through poverty into upper middle class..so i do know more than s**t. We pulled up stakes and moved to outside of Ithaca, NY, stunningly beautiful, liberal mindset, thriving underground music scene. We thrive here making 40% less than we did in CA, and we're more comfortable than we were in CA. We moved out for all the negative reasons everyone always states, and because we can open our own winery here in 5 years, as opposed to the 15-20 it would have taken us to save for a LOT smaller piece of land in CA. We hated the 250+ days of 90 degree weather, and the one season all throughout, and the 110+ days that were common in the summer. Most of us can't afford to live near the beach where its comfortable all year round...we have to live where the climate is less than desirable..miles and miles away from the beach..which takes away a lot of the draw in itself.

I come here and talk crap about CA because I can, and I do what I can to present the other side, that the Cali-blinded people often don't. And to remind people there are other places in the US that one can be happy in, without the grind that is CA. Without the constant competition of image, of whos got the biggest car, house and paycheck.

I'm not jealous of Californians in the slightest..I come to offer the other opinion. If I never set foot in CA again, i'd be the happiest man on earth. I can speak because I've seen it go from bad to worse, and because its my right to. As much as it is the Cali-lovers right to promote their state, it is my right, and the right of others to say why we hate it. And because i'm one of the few here that fit the bill of the people who defend california so religiously: Though born and raised in CA, I hate CA, and rather than just talk about it, actually moved out of state, where I'm happy elsewhere. If any person on the opposite side's opinion is worth anything its mine, and those similar to my experience.

If I had to live in New York again ... I'd probably talk a lot of crap about California too because I'd definitely be jealous. In fact, I was extremely jealous. After one of the worst northeast winters ever with record blizzards and snow storms... that was the year I packed up and moved to California.

I remember that day so well ... driving through a blizzard thinking ... what on earth is keeping me here?

There's no bigger grind than snow, IMO. I'll take 110 degree days over snow any day of the week.

Just my opinion ... of course.

Who from California is saying you can't be happy elsewhere?

I think it is a waste that people who move away want to spend their time bashing California. Some people who bash CA have never even been here and have no desire to come here, but they still bash CA and blame us for their countries problems lol.

If California sucks so much, why do people from the other 49 spend so much of their time talking about it?

Admit it, California is your Reality Show, you are hooked on watching it, while we are living it. You wish you were on the cast, but you chose to be in the audience . So grab a bag of popcorn and watch us rolllll....

You may hate California, but Cali doesn't hate you.

Enjoy Ithica it is a nice place to live. Next time I am there, I want extra butter mmmmm.

I used to hate CA while I was there and mind you I was living 1 block from the ocean in sunny SB.

Now that I am in Boston, I am trying to figure out how I will ever get back on the West Coast. I actully hate it here and my health hasn't been that great either after our move.

It is indeed all about CA for me.

The Ironic thing is many people in NY act the same way as people in Ca that alot of you complain about. Especially people from NYC, my mom and all my moms side of the family are from there so I hear it when I go visit.

We moved to WA state thinking we could have a better quality of life here than in CA (I'm a CA native).

None of the pros of WA state are enough to keep us from moving back to CA as soon as we can. It sucks here in WA.

(not bashing California) I could say the same for people who are living in C alifornia ...who continually talk about how many things there are to do and how great the weather is (both true....born and raised in SD)) yet if you check how many posts they put on here each day it seems like they are not really out enjoying it....instead they are defending it all day long on these boards!! lol Why aren't they out enjoying it? One guess? THEY'RE BROKE!! lol

The peak was about $350K ... now you can get a decent sized home for $250K ... $300K brand new. It will probably go down to $200K eventually.
Oh.....like Barstow etc? I've been through San Bernardino county several times....no offense ...but has it improved that much in say the last 10 years. To me it is not a very desirable area.....hence the cheap prices. I guess I just dont think of that area when I think of California.
