Yeah ... if California is going to be fair game then I'm going to start bashing other states too, especially the ones I've lived in. The list is pretty long:

Louisiana
Mississippi
Texas
North Carolina
Virginia
Washington D.C.
New York

And that, of course, doesn't include all of the states I travelled to for business so ...

Bashing all of those states should keep me busy for what ... a decade?

Well ... as people are fond of pointing out ... the California desert is neither particularly desirable nor does it have great weather.

Nevertheless, even if this market crash gets incredibly bad, I'm still going to have more equity in my cheap desert house than most people who bought cheap houses out of state.

Why? Because there's still more money in California. Yeah ... the lending was insane and artificially inflated prices in comparison to incomes but, those incomes are still higher ... which was my original point.

wow you have lived in some of the most aweful states, no wonder you like California. Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana...YIKES Feel free to bash Texas, as it made me totally miserable. Even our houseplant that we have kept alive for 12 years died after only 3 months there. If I could, I would move to Oceanside or Huntington Beach, the only thing that gets in my way is not haveing 800K for a 3 bedroom house.

This is one reason why people in other states aren't fan of Californians and other people who move into their state from expensive states. We move into the cheap and green states and create the same sprawl, pollution, environmental destruction we complain about. Developers tear down green spaces and build mcmansions that seem cheap to us from California.

When we move we are actually making other states worse. Its a cycle.

We live in Boise, too. I wouldn't say that we've had any problems other than our own longing for what we left behind. We miss all the things to do in the San Diego area, the vast educational opportunities, excellent public transportation, great mexican food, etc, etc. Add in the fact that most of our friends and family are in San Diego, too, and it all makes for a good case of homesickness.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Idaho is a fine state and I don't mean to bash it. Things are slower paced in Idaho and that can be good. Sometimes, though, it can be frustrating. For example, the traffic here is miserable because they tear up several main roads at the same time and then literally take months to repair them. In short, there are big lifestyle differences between California and Idaho and we've discovered that we prefer California. My family has been there for quite awhile; they homesteaded in a little community east of San Diego over 100 years ago.

My wish is that those outsiders who California-bash would realize that most Californians are normal, down-to-earth people who have families, homes and history there - just like the residents of any other state.

I think it is a waste that people who move away want to spend their time bashing California. Some people who bash CA have never even been here and have no desire to come here, but they still bash CA and blame us for their countries problems lol.

If California sucks so much, why do people from the other 49 spend so much of their time talking about it?

Admit it, California is your Reality Show, you are hooked on watching it, while we are living it. You wish you were on the cast, but you chose to be in the audience . So grab a bag of popcorn and watch us rolllll....

You may hate California, but Cali doesn't hate you.

Enjoy Ithica it is a nice place to live. Next time I am there, I want extra butter mmmmm.

Good points you made

Many more people are moving out of Utah, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Massachusetts, Illinois and New York than California (more than four times the amount, in fact).

New York has nearly double the amount of people moving out to the other states than California does ... yet no one seems to blame New Yorkers for this. And when all of those New Orleans refugees moved to Houston after Katrina and the crime rate jumped 30 percent ... I suppose Californians were responsible for that too.

As for people moving in ... I hear the same thing out in the California desert. People who've lived here for a long time actually complain about it ... like the desert was some kind of ritzy area to begin with. It's ridiculous.

But you know what? I like it ... bring it on. I like the fact that my house appreciated to the point that this current housing crash won't affect me no matter how bad it gets. And I like making more money. At least in California, you financially benefit from urban congestion. You can't always say that about other states.

Both, in my bashing CA observations, but they hated the state first and that spread to the people.

I have heard people in Tampa, Atlanta, N.C. and New York blame Cali for the immigration problem and liking Mexicans too much.

Well, this thread has made one thing abundantly clear-- different people like and want different things. Of course, Baskin-Robbins knew that long ago.

Good thing we have 50 states. So those who hate CA have 49 other choices. And those who don't like those 49 other choices can come to CA. Then everybody's happy and we can all disagree about something else.
