Yes, places like South Central, Compton and Inglewood are becoming heavily Hispanic while blacks move to places like IE, Altadena, Victorville, Adelanto...or back to the South.

I've seen it when Asians moved in... there were actually several altercations and one that I witnessed...

African Americans in this one neighborhood were so upset Gentrification Protests at City Hall resulted...

I have a black friend who, for a number of years, has ridden my ass because my dad moved us out of South Inglewood for South OC many decades ago. He said my dad was racist for doing that.

Well the worm finally turned. He recently moved from Inglewood because "the Mexicans were screwing up the schools and the neighborhood isn't the same."

Yes, I invoked my right to point out his hypocrisy. And I told him he's a big fat racist.

Is it still racism if the new arrivals really are screwing up the neighborhood and schools?

My mother in law had an African-American family on section 8 move into the home across the street from her (the neighborhood has been going downhill since she moved in over 10 years ago). Judging from their behavior (loud, obnoxious, parking on law) and appearance, my wife and I told her it was time to move. Our statement was based in part on the following events: one night, police had the entire family lined up on the curb; another time, an officer told my father in law that the entire family was bad news.

Is it racist to want to move away from that?

If you take out "Mexicans" your friend still may have a valid basis for moving, separate and apart from the race of the offending new arrivals.

It's not racist to want to live in a neighborhood where people are respectful of their own home and of the residents and homes around them.
It's only racist when one assumes that someone who isn't white is going to be that kind of a problem and makes generalizations about people based on race.

Part of it is cost of living, but that isn't why I moved away from California, especially the IE. I lived in a decent area. First house, the neighborhood was nicely mixed and I felt very comfrortable. Then the local barrio leaked in. When I moved out there were no black families, one white who were moving and all the rest hispanic. Not just that they did things like sit and watch the older brother beat up the younger ones with mom not blinking an eyelash.

Second address, also a decent area, but an apartment. The two grocery stores across the street were hispanic. They didn't even have the merchansise labeled in English. After trying to shop and when asking a question getting the 'our spot, your not welcome' look I didn't shop there anymore. The city sold bus passes there and they'd have to track someone down who spoke English. This isn't mexico and keep your native language, but learn the one they speak where you live.

The hispanics around there were very cultish. They ignored those who weren't. They even ignored a family from Guatamala who also spoke spanish as if they were intruders. Are we supposed to welcome people like this?

And the tweekers had taken over the streets of all ethnicities. As they raised the rents and the apartments empty they hopped the fence and moved in.

It was interesting that a young woman who is hispanic ask me here in OK if I knew why her people refused to learn to speak English there. But the reason I moved here was that it has much less people, and air you don't have to use fog lights to see through. And people aren't in such a hurry.

Interesting that apparently the number one state migrating to OK is California. Can't just be next generation returnees since most of those I've met aren't.

Maybe a lot of people are just getting fed up with the whole way the culture is being turned into something they don't recognize there.

It's very possible to be ignorant of other races and not be a racist. That's my entire point right there. Many hear someone speaking a language and think that person is this or that without knowing that the person actually is not. But then, why should they have to? Most people that live outside of dense populations just want to be left alone. When someone moves into their hood that is not of their race they should be tolerant but shouldn't have to be forced to learn about other's cultures.

Being ignorant about another race or culture doesn't = racism.
Holding negative attitudes, assumptions and generalizations about a race or culture due to that ignorance is what's racist.
