You're in luck: the contest has a picking division, and also an "anything goes" division. Bring your banjo and sign up!

This looks fun but I've already got plans for this weekend. Is there something like it closer to Sacramento anytime soon?

From my e-mail box this afternoon:

Fiddle Contest Breaking News

In the face of the oncoming rain, the City of Oroville will open the Centennial Cultural Center at 1931 Arlin Rhine Memorial Drive and the 2nd floor conference room in the Municipal Auditorium to provide warm, dry spaces for the Music Jams that are normally (in good weather) held in the RV parking area.

Many visitors to the California State Old Time Fiddle and Picking Championship Contest come mainly to participate in the spontaneous music jams that sprout up amongst the RVs in the parking area behind Oroville’s Municipal Auditorium. The rain this week will interfere with having these fun-filled activities outdoors.

The Cultural Center will be open for the musicians to jam and the public to listen from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 15th and Friday, March 16th. The 2nd floor conference room at the Municipal Auditorium will be the jam venue from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, March 17th.

For more information contact: Larry Jendro, President, Oroville’s Old Time Fiddlers, 533-1413, ljendro@msn.com

Thanks WesternPilgrim, I appreciate your offer. We are still heavily considering Chico so we'll see what happens. I would love to check out some of those festivals later this year if we are in the area. Thanks!
