Default Best place to live in Stanislaus County?

So my parents recently just moved out to Turlock, CA and we are looking at houses right now to rent/buy, but what is the safest place in this area? I was looking at online data and Turlock and Modesto and a lot of the surrounding areas have a fairly high crime rate. I've only been here for like a week, so I obviously don't know anything besides what I have read, but right now my only concern for where to live is safety. I've heard Ripon, CA is a better choice in the surrounding area, but what are your opinions? For those of you who live in the area, what is the best place to live with the most optimal safety? We moved from a city that was extremely safe and comfortable, so this is just a different environment for me.

Thanks for any input!

Default Ripon

I know its on the outskirts on the county but Ripon is really one of the best places to live in there area if crime is your concern. Highly recommend if your OK with moving further up north. I live on the north east side of modesto, its not to bad here. Looking at crime stats can be very discuraging. PS. If you look at Megans list its even worse.

Ripon, Escalon, Riverbank. Oakdale, Livingston, Hughson, Waterford.

In that order for me If I had to pick one to move to.

FYI: Ripon and Escalon are in San Joaquin County. Livingston is in Merced. Turlock is pretty safe. I would stick with Turlock or Oakdale. Avoid Modesto(with the exception of eastside going towards riverbank), Riverbank is only "doable" in the crappy crossroads neighborhood and that's about it. Hughson is a really small town as is waterford.

The are all close enough to the OPs original request. Thats why I included them.

Ripon is only 10 minutes from downtown Modesto on the I-5 freeway.

10 minutes on a non-traffic rush hour? How many people actually work in Downtown Modesto? Not many. And it's the 99. The OP's parents are in Turlock. Turlock is easily another 20 minutes south, so realistically, it's about 30 to 45 minutes on Highway 99, depending on location.

Oakdale, Oakdale, and Oakdale.

Best town in the Northern San Joaquin Valley. Lived there seven years and I'd move back in a second if I could.

None of that has anything to do with the OP's original post. The OP was looking for general info on safe communities is the surrounding area.

Ripon BTW was asked about.

Good point. Ripon is a nice community, just a bit out there between stockton and modesto. My vote is Oakdale, maybe biased since i did live there
