It's Vladimir, actually, and this name does mean "Possess the world".
I think you need to call Li, actually...

I've always wondered where defense experts thought the bombs would fall.

Regarding the bomb blast shown for Oregon, I actually think that might be near Klamath Falls where a squadron of the Oregon Air National Guard is stationed.

As for the two bomb blasts slated for north east of Chico, the one farthest northeast from Chico, in Lassen County, is near the Sierra Army Depot where old munitions are sent for destruction. Maybe the Soviets felt it was being used for storage of surplus munitions.

As for the one closer to Chico, that one is fairly near the town of Quincy. Quincy is famous for having a big chain grocery store and a Taco Bell. I guess if your goal is to eliminate every single Taco Bell in the country, you have to go where the Mission Bell tolls.

But what is interesting to me is that no one thought Redding or more accurately, Shasta Dam would be a target. If they could succeed in destroying Shasta Dam, they could take out Keswick Dam as well, and in combination destroy the central component needed for irrigating the entire Central Valley and a major source of electricity. The resultant flooding would also eliminate the main North/South rail (Southern Pacific) and freeway links (I-5). Certainly seems a more likely target than the Quincy Taco Bell.

It looks more like Chester than Quincy... They're going to hit Chester so that they can knock a bunch of trouts unconscious at once, you see, Soviets liked smoked fish very much.

Notice that Bakersfield isn't considered a worthy target?

Fish, that it! That second bomb NE of Chico is not aimed at Portola, but at nearby Lake Davis. Back in the 90's invasive northern pike were found in the lake. In spite of several controversial expensive efforts to rid the lake of them by the CA DFG, the pests are still not eradicated. So that it, just zap those fish by nuking the lake, that will take care of those nasty pike!

Portola, major rail marshalling yard for the Western Pacific, everyone in town knows it had been a Russian Target for decades.

Herlong, in the past was an ammo factory and storage facility.

Those are the two NE of Chico.

The plural of trout is trout.

The Ft. Bragg target is probably a mix-up with Ft. Bragg, North Carolina -- huge Army base. Very amusing. Speaks to quality intelligence, if so.

Since many of the military bases in CA were closed in the 90's, I'd say this map is woefully out of date.

Only a threat if a Russian truck driver can get it up in the cold Siberian winter.

Looks to me like the safest place might be Pelican Bay State Prison!
