Because that's where it was! (in order to teach Gay History!)

As I said, any inappropriateness might be argued as written by the following parent of one of the young students taken on the tour:

I know that the Castro is full of regular shops and restaurants, but I also know, that there are lots of shops with neon signs and windows that display things that well I just dont need more questions about! this parent wrote in an email to SFGate. I would not be OK with a tour of North Beach either that included certain streets. So I dont think this is a gay issue.

You, doctrain, are posing this as a 'gay is inappropriate' issue ...

Because that is where the field trip went and that is the topic of this thread; the teaching of gay history! If it makes you feel any better, a while back there was a thread about a heterosexual female porn star who was brought to a public school to read aloud to first graders and I complained about that too!

the only way for k12 to stop being a political puppet instead of a literacy machine is to close it down.
voucher sooner the better. anything that is driven by law suits will not last.

If your beef is with age inappropriate exposure to sexually explicit themes in schools, I got no beef with that ... but what you wrote earlier supported repeal of SB48, which is not about sexual explicitness at all, of any kind. And you cited examples that targeted gay venues. This would indicate that your beef is anti-gay. If not, then explain so.

You now write that you also object to a female porn star reading to first graders. Ok, you just broadened your beef ... but you are still on record as objecting to SB48. What is it? You object to sexuality being referenced in schools: gay, straight, in any manner?

Was the porn star reading porn to the kids? Was the porn star's profession explained to the kids as an introduction to why she was there? You objected on what basis?

She read to the kids. She wants to be a school teacher. She is a retired porn star, and still easily young enough to begin a second career(she's 24).

Ok, thanks for that information. Nothing wrong with that in my book.

So, doctrain, were you aware of that? Do you simply object to school kids being in contact with anything having sexual history -- regardless of non-explicit disclosure?

Anymore, the only difference between the former porn star and the young teachers who educate youth is likely the fact that the porn star got paid for what they did for free.

The risks increase the further one departs from this standard.

Of course it is. The whole point of SB48 is to remake California into a place where homosexual acts are morally approved by the majority, and where those who engage in these acts meet no social disadvantages whatsoever.
Ah Pilgrim, you continue to frame your assaults against homosexuality by church definitions unsupported by the majority. You link a Catholic study? Seriously? Regardless, I would not be surprised to find other independent studies showing greater health risks to homosexual behavior. Consider the environments in which each type of sexuality has to express itself: heterosexuality, a majority, culturally marketed mainstream -- vs. homosexuality, a minority, traditionally ridiculed, reviled, discriminated against and humiliated (cruelly).

You advocate "social disadvantage" for a minority that has always existed in nature?

I repeat my earlier question: is my deaf wife a freak because she is born into a minority reality? She commits daily acts based exclusively on her "abnormality". She chooses to only communicate in sign language, for instance, when it is possible to force most deaf to read lips and use their voices (although lip reading is only about 30% accurate -- and use of deaf voice is very challenging and results in constant ridicule). My wife has many behaviors you and all hearing people would find odd. Should we criminalize them? Children might start "signing" if they witness this publicly!

Interestingly, as my wife grew up in a strictly Catholic family, the worst humiliation she says she ever felt was from the priests and nuns who expressed to her that she was born deaf because she was born a sinner -- and this was her punishment. Nice.
