IMO... TURLOCK!! would choose it over Modesto... especially now that Turlock has better shopping and we are getting more and more restaurants. Years ago you HAD to go to Modesto to shop but now we rarely go. Cept at Christmas time
I grew up in a small town near here... in 1981 we moved to Portland, OR for 9 mos then back to the area... we really liked Turlock. It has just grown way too fast in the last few years. But would still choose it over Modesto anyday... ![]() |

Turlock has less crime, less traffic, easy to get around town, the town is better taken care of. Modesto has a mall, airport, better choices for shopping.

Hi Cahatch...Just wondering about the air quality there in Turlock Since you have lived there for years, have you had any serious issues with the pollutants and air quality--any health issues you know of-statistics?
I listed my condo last night...so sad..but I'm trying to stay positive--we'll be looking all over the Central Valley Area just around the time you plan on listing---what type of house do you have? I'm looking for a 3 bed, 2 bath--let me know... Happy New Year! Snogirl |

Hi Snogirl
air quality is a bit better here than Sacto I believe... and of course LA.. we still have days where the news peeps tell us to stay inside if we have lung troubles..phhtttt I know when we go up north to WA I feel much better and breath much better. I have a nurse friend that moved to western WA and said the difference in the numbers of cases of asthma are incredible... there compared to here in the central valley. I've had a mysterious cough for a few years now.... and of course my friends that have left CA all tell me it's the air here... LOL I had a breathing test about a month ago and I don't have asthma... but was put on an inhaler to see if it helps with the breathing... can't tell that it does.... our home is roughly 2600 sf... we just added on a large scrapbook room for me.. and increased the size of our family room... 4 bdrms 3 bths and if ya count the scraproom add on... 5 bdrms... but we will list it as a game room... now lets hope it doesn't blow away... expecting horrible wind and rain tonight... I hear the wind picking up... good luck selling your condo!! DH spoke to a realtor today...errr yesterday...LOL so we shall see... ![]() |

Cahatch,
Thanks for the insight. We will probably we checking out al the areas around Modesto. Anything I read(maybe I should stop ! LOL )m says stay away from the Valley! Too late!! We're coming!! Turlock sounds really nice--what about Tracy? PATTERSON? my daughter lives in San Diego and she's telling me to check out areas further north and north east also(Lodi?)...Your house sounds very nice-a little too big for us--you scrap? I was hoping to start somekind of business when I get out there. Any suggestions for what the area might crave? I tried a home scraping business here--it just didn't take off. I went back to teaching Montessori Preschool, but really would like to do something different..well, just asking. I have relatives in WA--I'm sure I'll be out to visit them once I get settled in CA...Good luck to you with your home too! How were the rains and wind? Should I worry about flood insurance in the Valley area-earthquakes etc....Am I a worry wart or what?? Thanks for your replys..it helps!![]() Snogirl |

Oh the lovely rain.. haven't seen any in months and the three storms rolling through really dumped on us... we stood watching the water POUR off of our roof today wondering if we should have gotten some sandbags...LOL it finally stopped... yesterday was worse.. the street out front flooded but it always does with the first big rain... we drove down the freeway to Modesto 25 mph, we could hardly see....
We so like a good rain cause it clears the nasty air... the wind blew down a whole section of our fence...lovely for selling! SIGHHHHHHHHHHHH I grew up near Patterson... sorry but I would say the best town around is Turlock...heehee now ...if I lived in Patterson or Tracy I would prob say one of those... We have never had flood or earthquake insurance... we did feel the last earthquake.. gave the house quite a shake... but that was the first rumble we have felt in over a decade... Speaking of scrapping... I sell TLC.. well I'm a hobbiest... not many around here know about it... actually I'm a 'collector' of scrappin supplies... *see previous post* LOL about adding on a scraproom... that was to STORE all my supplies.... I've sold Princess House, stitchery, Discovery Toys, Custom Nails.. and something else..hahaha can't remember... always fizzled...why are you moving to this area??? hubby get a transfer?? or ya just want to??? ![]() |

Cahatch,
I tried TLC too! Didn't sell much-I just got the discount for me..I have lots of scrapping stuff too-I actually turned my scrap area into a area to do lesson plans for school--my place!! We're relocating to the area due to Hubby's job--he has an apt in Modesto now--I should be making a trip out probably in Feb to check out the areas-Turlock does seem nice from checking on the net--I guess we'll just take one day at time! My 3 year old grand daughter is so excited-she says she won't have to take 2 airplanes to come see me-she wants me to move next door(in Menlo Park)..told her we have to live closer to Pop Pop's work! She's so cute!! ![]() Well, I hope the weather picks up there-it's very rainy here and gloomy today-they expect the whole week to be pretty gloomy.. Are you affected by the wild fires in the valley? My daughter had to evacuate in San Diego last time before Thanksgiving-her dear friend lost everything..very scary! Thanks for the info-keep in touch!...and stay dry! ![]() |

There is no worry from wildland fires in the valley towns. usually the biggest grass fires are in the center medians of the freeways.
