just moved from Turlock to Dallas, and I would strongly discourage anyone from moving there. I was born and raised there but it has gotten really bad there. Crime, crime, and more crime...so much gang violence. Stockton which is less than an hour away has been ranked the 2 out of the last 5 years with the highest crime rate in the U.S. Stanislaus County was also named meth capital of the world. A few years ago Turlock had a string of about 20 home invasions that were so bad I can't even say the stuff that they did to these poor people on this forum, and it took forever for them to get caught. Remember the Laci Peterson story? Only 15 minutes away in Modesto. When I left, 6 monthes ago, a Turlock school teacher and a Turlock police officer had just gotten busted for sexually abusing an underage teen. This teacher was a respected teacher and football coach at Pitman High. I can go on forever. There is alot of drugs, gangs, violence, racial tension, bad air quality.....and also the epicenter of foreclosures and bad economy right now.....things are bad....I got out and I really like it in Dallas, I'll miss my hometown of course, but much higher quality if life over here.... If you have any questions I'd be more and happy to help....

Relocating..
Hi I was excited about making a big move for a job opportunity to own a business with our brother in law in atwater. My husband to is from Turlock but moved to Rocklin at 18 were I met him Im a local in Rocklin/Granite bay and am willing to reloacte to his family and life and schools I saw alot of good comments till yours and now Im concerned. How bad is it I go and visit alot but stay at the ranch most of the time and am never out at night or involved with community much. Just here from them to come, but their bias they still live there and nowhere else. What are your biggest concerns of the town as for my kids future besides air quality.

the "college" is a university of California State University system
Pls note that the College is part of the California State University. It has several colleges, College of Arts, Business Administration, Education, Human and Health, Humanities, and College of Natural Sciences. Although it was considered a liberal arts college originally, today it has programs in chemistry, psychology, music, biology, mathematics, business, nursing, physics, computer science, and many other areas. Look it up.

The murders/thefts statistics on this very website show Turlock is not that high compare to many others.
You have to be careful how you look at them. If you look at murders per 100,000 that is a good metric rather than number of murders/thefts total.
Here is a very nice city Wilmington-North-Carolina on the east coast.
Here are the stats for Wilmington, compare them with Turlock.

Sadly, to find a really low crime area you have to live in Mayberry, NC (TV show).
